Upon
coming to this site I've found several references to the "First series/season"
of Yu-Gi-Oh and how it's "Soooo much better and more faithful to the manga"
and that "4Kids skipped 27 episodes." Not so.
Does 4Kids make some of the stupidest decisions in the anime world-yes. Is
this one of them-No.
First
of all, "Yu-Gi-Oh" which had all of one season is a completely
separate series than "Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters" the show brought
over from Japan. There were different voices, writers, and animators, and it
wasn't done by Toei. I have no clue if 4Kids even has the rights to this
series.
Even if they did-there is about a snowball's chance in He-*cough, pardon
me* the Shadow Realm that they'd ever do it. It has a completely different
look and feel than the newer series. Let me put it this way-ever seen the 60's
version of the Spiderman cartoon? Can you say "Walloping Websnappers"? Now
imagine that running alongside the version from the 90's. Not a pretty picture
is it?
The
fact is, plot and character-wise the first series simply doesn't count.
Question Kaiba about Death-T and he'd look at you funny and call security. If
you asked Jounouchi about dressing in drag, you'd earn a one-way ticket to the
hospital. You're not missing anything crucial anime-wise.
Also-series one had its own quirks. Miho aka "Ribbon" was a regular,
Gozaburo seems to be among the living, and have you seen the animation? Kaiba
had green hair. 'Nuff said. Does that mean you shouldn't look for it on Ebay?
Heck-no. If I hadn't spent all my cash on Noa & Alcatraz subs, I sure as hell
would. That's my two cents.
G'night everybody!
