That's when Shonen Jump came along. Yugioh was finally seen
in the form it should have been seen in from the
start. Cussing, vices, violence, and everything that
was cut from the dub was present for the first time in
any american Yugioh release. Now fast forward to
2004-5. Yugioh is finally being released uncut. The
uncut dub is not only unedited, but has a very
accurate script and all original music. But hows
Shonen Jump doing? Now that the manga and the show are
more aligned in america, how is Shonen Jump reacting?
They react, by turning completely around. I don't want
to enrage any Yugioh Uncensored fans who read Shonen
Jump, but look at it for a second.
Back when it was
first released, there was cussing all over the place.
Now, we are lucky to see a "bastard" or a "damn" in
every chapter in the issue! The only thing back in the
day that Shonen Jump did that even came close to art
censoring was translating any Kanji in the picture and
translating the SFX, and they made an effort to make
sure that the new SFX didn't interfere with the art in
the panels, considering that Kanji and American
writing have a huge difference in terms of size and
shape, making it possible for translated sfx to
interfere with the art in the panels in a way the
Kanji did not.
Nowadays, not only are the translated sfx FREAKING HUGE AND APPEAR EVERYWHERE, but are also
being used as a way to censor things that may be
deemed inappropriate, mostly violence, such as the
scene in the last issue where Kurama cut several
demons into pieces with his rose whip. Not only that,
but Shonen Jump, as of the last issue, has officially
started censoring art. In Shaman Kings, a tanuki takes
a piss on Manta's head. They censored it so it had a
fire hose instead. Plus, it is official, every
character that appears after Monster world has a name
change to correspond to 4Kids dubs. I could go on
forever about what they have done, but I have already
done so so many times, I think you already get the
message. So I think we should speak out. Don't let SJ
go downhill!
