Oh, dear. Haga's BACK! And, since Yuugi has bigger fish to fry, he has to settle for battling Jonouchi. The battle, mercifully, is only two episodes, as the writers think Jonouchi isn't really that important as to have full on three, four, or five-part battles. In the 4Kids, obviously a lot is changed, cut, altered, and we have the return of the terrible, terrible Weevil voice. I can't say the original was the most beautiful voice I've ever heard, but dear god... Weevil's voice. Well, here is the comparison. |
"Heh heh heh... Joey has fallen right into my trap..." - "Weevil" 4Kids takes any motivation for trapping Jonouchi out in the dub. They make him seem like he's doing it for the hell of it with very little explanation. Truly, he is vowing revenge for the beating Yuugi dealt in Duelist Kingdom. Of course, the memories of the seven-turned-eight year olds may not recall DK without extensive flashbacks, and 4Kids must have felt lazy, so they just changed around the dialogue a little bit. |

Well, at this point a little boy comes in Shizuka's hospital room (where she's recovering from the eye
surgery than Jonouchi spent the 3,000,000 yen on, in case you're not following), and hides from some nurse.
In the Japanese, Shizuka agrees that the nurse is mean, in the dub they talk about the evil, evil tests. Much
more plausible to discuss a mean, evil test for the 7-year-olds than a nurse. Or something. |

The laptop, where the "KC" KaibaCorp logo is on the left, in the yellow rectangle next to it there was
"BATTLE CITY" in the original. The "BATTLE CITY" is erased in the dub, for whatever reason. I guess even the two most uttered words in this saga, the saga's NAME isn't good enough to keep in. Written language = evil. It's the 4Kids doctrine. |
"Be careful, Joey... when has Joey ever been careful..." Random ramblings by "Tea" and "Tristan"
More idiotic rewriting of Jonouchi's character. In the real version Jonouchi was more of a rebel
than the fuckup 4Kids portrays Joey to be. In the Japanese, during this scene, Anzu reminds Jonouchi of
Haga throwing off the Exodia cards into the water back in DK. Second time today an allusion to the past has
been covered up. Wonder why? |
|
And the duel opens. Weevil's monsters, Flying Kamikiri #1 and #2, were originally Dragonfly and Flying Mantis, respectively.
Why, exactly, did Upperdeck rename these monsters?
In other events, Serenity/Shizuka say different things after the little boy tells her Joey/Jonouchi is in trouble. Serenity says
that Joey has been in tough spots but he's always come through. Shizuka, instead, things Jonouchi is just playing
around with Haga, and that he loves challenges. Ehh, I'm not really partial to either version. You make the call. |
(Cut: 15 Seconds)
A little scene is removed in the dub after the parasite infects Panther Warrior. In this scene,
the parasite infects the monster by coming out of its mouth and then going BOOM. Not really
a necessary scene, it's just there to show the power of the Parasite Paracide card.. |
|
Another scene that would scare the little ones, Haga's monster Leghul pierces Jonouchi's leg. The pincer is replaced by a glowy paint blob. |
