Time to delve in to the epic two-part duel, pitting Jounouchi vs. Psychic Duelist Esper Roba. Okay, it's not that epic. We're talking a semi-main comic relief character against an enemy that's going to basically come and go in two episodes, never to be seen again until the very last episode of the show, however it still turns out to have a decent plot and the duel itself does have its strategic moments. It's nothing like Yuugi vs. Atemu, but still it ain't bad. I'd like to comment on "Espa Roba"'s English voice. I will say it's not as annoying as, say, Weevil's voice, but it does grate the nerves a bit. The Japanese voice is much more pleasant and can go from one emotion to the next easily, whereas the dub voice pretty much sticks to one emotion: robotic. Where does 4Kids find these people? How do they audition these people, for that matter? To me, it seems like it doesn't take much to become a 4Kids VA. Oh well, onto the show. |

"Roba's a strong duelist, but I know Joey can beat him!"- Yugi You know, this actually rubs me the wrong way. Yami no Yuugi is pretty much silent throughout the whole episode, adding to his coolness factor by watching from a distance. With all this interjected dialogue it takes away from that image. Quite unfortunate, really. Then again, 4Kids interjects dialogue into everything. They seem to have a problem with silence. If it's not interjected dialogue, it's interjected mediocre synchronized 4Kids dub music. Meh. |

"You almost broke my schnozz!" - Grandpa ... I'm letting that go. Because it's New Year's. Well, New Years was 19 days ago as of this writing, but still. I could say a lot right now. But this is your one free pass, 4Kids, throw another piece of dialogue like that at me and you'll see the sparks fly right into your gigantic headquarters. |
| Heh, I found something funny. When Anzu's phone rings in the real version, the song that is played is the "Shuffle" opening in digitized form. Know what? 4Kids KEPT it in! Although we will never hear the real song, for about 6 seconds dub viewers got to hear a real piece of music instead of the "Your Move" biffle they play in America! |

(Cut: 10 Seconds) Cut is a little scene where, when things were looking pretty awful for Jounouchi, Yuugi thinks to himself, "Don't give up until the last second. Where there's will, there's hope." 4Kids took this out! They had to add in pointless dialogue earlier but now at this perfect moment for an interjection they take it out? Remember what I said about the doobie? Yeah, big time light-up when they were doing this episode. |
|
"It's all ova'"- Joey Yeah, yeah, you know this wasn't in the original. His real dialogue was much more touching, to the effect of "I don't think I can keep my promise to you, Yuugi." How touching... and yet again, 4Kids removes it, replacing it with something far less meaningful. |
|
(Cut: 25 Seconds in All) Here's where Jounouchi wins, and everyone is shocked that the Roulette Spider worked- even Ryosaki, and here's where the cut comes in, who uttered in disbelief, "Sometimes it depends on luck". Also, after Roba realizes he lost, we see a great brotherly hug by the Roba brothers. It is so moving. Why take these out? I don't know. I just know this episode is over and we can finally get to Pandora, my favorite episode trio of the entire saga! So many cuts and edits, you will be shocked at the amount of color going up and down this page. Stay tuned, folks! |
