This episode was ridden with digital paint edits, but actually came out okay
besides those. The script is also mostly intact because of how tame it was to
begin with. |
|
Repetition, repetition, repetition... in the Japanese version, Otogi doesn't
keep on repeating what's at stake. Instead, he says that because Yuugi doesn't
know the rules but accepted the offer that it would be his last dueling day.
There's also no dialogue while Otogi sets up the DDM dueling ring in the
Japanese version, while there is in the dub. Why does the dub hate silence? |
|
"'Dose cheerleadas are a bunch a' suckups!"- Guess Who In the real version,
Jounouchi just called Otogi a "sneaky guy". (Another veiled homo overtone?) |
|
In the Japanese version, the three cheerleaders had "Otogi" written on their
sashes in English. It was probably too much for 4Kids to replace it with
"Duke", because they think 6-year-olds can't read four word letters. Instead,
they just erased the lettering entirely. |
|
"Dimension the dice"- Everyone I just don't get why the Japanese script
writers chose THIS for the DDM players to shout. It just sounds really
dumb to me, but then again it IS probably just me. It is uttered in both
versions, though. |
|
One of the biggest paint edits in all of DK: for every scene in which they
appear, ALL SIX DICE have their symbols changed, which means 4Kids has to
painstakingly recreate all the frames with the stupid symbols they came up
with. The Japanese versions are on the left, English on the right.
Oh, and by the way, for DDM #2's first airing on Kids WB, the dice were left
untouched, marking the first instance of a hexagram on Yu-Gi-Oh the Dub. Five
Pointed Star ----> Four Pointed Star
Arrow ----> Two Arrows
Hexagram with Circle around it ----> Crescent
Swords ----> Two Swords crossing each other with a square box around them
Cross ----> Four Small Diamonds coming together to make one big one
Odd Symbol Resembling Teeth (?) ----> One Red Circle around a small red
circle
Hey, at least they're consistent. |
|
"Maybe you should try blowing on the dice for good luck, Yugi"- Duke Pfft. In
the real version, he said that if Yuugi doesn't summon a monster soon, he won't
be able to defend himself. |
|
Lizard Dragon ----> Gator Dragon |
|
"Level 4 summons are too hard for you, but I'm a pro so I can do them"- Duke
God, I hope I never have to play US Otogi, because he wouldn't have any nuts by
the time I beat him. In the Japanese version, he said the game was getting
boring, so he wanted to spice it up. |
|
Little Wizard ----> Mighty Mage (WTF?) Lizard Bomb ----> Blast Lizard
Dark Assassin ----> Dark Assailant |
|
"The only reason I'm not the greatest duelist in the world is because you
cheated in your duel with Pegasus!"- Duke
Heh, I was half expecting him to say that he cheated ON Pegasus. Anyway, Otogi
is just mad because now Yuugi put Pegasus in hiding. Of course, at this point
everyone thinks Peggy is dead in the Japanese version, and they won't be proved
wrong until DOOM. |
|
NOW Otogi tells Yuugi he did some cheating with Pegasus (hehe... cheating..
with... Pegasus). But in all seriousness, this is the first time in this whole
mini-saga he suggests it, while Dukie suggested it from the beginning of Episode
44. |
