This episode surprised me. Some spots were actually BETTER dialogue-wise than the original Japanese version. |
|
Fierce Knight is now Giltia the Dark Knight (or Giltia the D. Knight in the
TCG). Pointless change. |
|
The stone slab that Kaiba has been held prisoner on as well as the empty slab
have both been edited to look less cross-like. |
"I didn't know who else to turn to."- Mokuba "Anyone else."-
KaibaKaiba was disappointed that Mokuba had asked Yuugi-tachi for help, but
he didn't say anyone else in the real version. Instead he said "you needn't
have". |
|
Multiply is once again lightened up from black to yellow in the dub. |
|
Little dialogue change: Originally, the Big 5 said they didn't Yuugi was capable
of that (taking the game to the last level), and in the dub, it's changed to:
"It's time to stop this rescue attempt. Take the game to the final level!"
Originally, that "unknown" seal under Yuugi-tachi's feet was recognized as Lord
of D.
Name changes: Chaos Soldier ----> Black Luster Soldier and Dark Knight Gaia
----> Gaia the Dragon Champion. More pointless changes. |
|
More changes in dialogue: Yuugi says in the dub that their monsters can't stand
alone, but there's one that can. In the Japanese version, it's sort of like
that, plus the word 'kill'. Once again, it's all about that seven year old
demographic. We don't want little Jimmy down the street hearing a bad word, now
do we? |
|
"This might be our only chance! We have to work as a team. Trust me!"- Dub Yugi
We know this is fake. He was actually kind of forcefully demanding Kaiba to play
Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon, which prompted Kaiba to ask if that was an order.
This is one time where Japanese Kaiba is actually dumber *gasp* than Dub Kaiba. |
|
Master of Dragon Knight ----> Dragon Master Knight |
|
This is one instance where the dub dialogue is better than the Japanese's. The
dub dialogue is talking about Yuugi and Kaiba maybe becoming friends, but of
course Kaiba rejects that offer. In the Japanese, it's talking about believing
in the cards. Flip-flop from how it usually is, eh? |
|
"Where's the john? I had seven sodas before goin' in da pod!"- Dub Joey, in New
Yorka Accent We couldn't go one whole episode without SDA, so here we are. He
originally was hungry, and wanted ramen noodles. Of course, the Evil Asian Food
is banned from all usage in any 4Kids TV show. Seriously, though, I doubt many
kids know about ramen. I know I didn't until recently. |
