First off, I want to wish you all a Happy Valentine's Day! Also, tomorrow is Message Board Moderator Crippler Daimaoh's birthday, so roll in the punches!

On to the meat of the matter. I have Chapter 3 up of Aatiyki's great fanfic, Beneath the Surface. She also sent in Chapter 4 to me, so look for that in the next couple days. I've also fallen behind on Kaeli's story, Dark Angel, but I'll have chapters 1 and 2 up by my next update. Sorry, Kaeli...

I also want to congratulate GreatSaiyaman777 on his popular Editorial contest. Saiyaman, keep up the good work!

Finally, before I call it a night, I want to remind you all that any writings or artwork you wish to be uploaded to the site should be turned in to me.

Happy Valentine's day everybody! To start things out with, I'll just get the bad news out of the way. (read my One Piece editorial again and you'll see. No, it hasn't been licensed by "them" or anyone but it is a possibility)

Next up, the site. As you may have remembered me saying earlier, I said that I was getting kind of tired of responding to Funimation's arguments all the time and wanted to make the site more fan oriented/focused, like Psaros's was. Of course, then I found out about Faulconer and the redub, and that motivated me to do a series of editorials.

Actually, I've counted and there are only about... a handful of legitimate arguments I can think of they use that I haven't countered yet. (yes, they've even got some "illegitimate" arguments too) And, until Movie 9 comes out with butchered music (assuming it does, but I'm not holding my breath that you-know-what will happen from Funimation) I'm not really interested right now in doing more editorials about Funi. However, I have thought about writing Bruce Faulconer a "Heie/Chuck Huber" style-letter (read this and you'll see- http://www.dbzoa.net/opinions/lettertoheie.html) perhaps this weekend. Oh, the unintentional comedy/flaming potential that could result from that...

Finally, as I decide to change my direction on the site in a.. different direction, I do so on a very good note. I recently read "The American Saiyajin's" editorial "FUNimation, Dragon Ball, Rabid Otakus, and the backround."

I have to say, a LOT of what he said is very much true. The DVD prices... right on the money! I doubt he read that post from a Funimation DVD maker on Planet Namek's message boards that once read, "the price is determined by 3 different people" (ie, guy was complaining and saying he agreed Funi was overcharging, but was saying it was the fault of the greedy executives so there wasn't really anything that could be done) or many of the other stuff he said (like interviews and "The Genterview" and other things) to learn all that much information. Honestly, he sounds like either he's from Funimation or he's close friends with them. Believe me, I have researched Funimation for a pretty long time, and it's taken me quite a while to learn so much information on them. Still, I do disagree strongly with the "cover art" statements mainly because of Sailor Moon's excellent original cover art from ADV and Pioneer in the past which does contradict Funimation's choices there.

Anyway, all this being said, I'm pleased to end this update with this exact quote from him which just goes to prove what I've been saying and have believed all along all this time.

"Given DBZ’s growing popularity, and the fact that FUNimation is now becoming more established and is not as young as it was back in the day, FUNi could get the original track without too many problems I’d imagine, and would be cheaper and faster."

By the great gods of Olympus... IT IS COMPLETE! Five ungodly hours of opinion-putting up... man, no wonder Chris Psaros took down his opinions section. Let's see.... 12 new editorials, yup. The "Big Contest" mentioned on the 27th is almost complete. The only editorial left to be turned in is from KevinTRod of YGO Uncensored. (also, his site's been having some problems but you can still see it all here- http://www.laserkid.dryice.net/Yu-Gi-Oh!%20Uncensored!/)

Lots of great editorials, be sure to read em all. Hmm... my download speed for Naruto episode 70 has increased from 5 to 30. I guess the gods of Olympus truly are amused by my work to reward me so. I'm not even Greek like Chris Psaros but I do like Greek food, so I guess that must count for something to those guys.

I got in another chapter of Beneath the Surface, but some computer complications prevented me from putting it up tonight. It should be up by tomorrow night.

Also, my AIM has been giving me problems of the hacked kind. Yes, someone has messed with my AIM account, and for all I know still is using it. I may have to make another account. So if you get an IM from me, and it is very uncharacteristic of me, most likely it’s not, so notify me as soon as possible.

Where: The End of a Great Legacy
By: GreatSaiyaman777

And so it ends good friends... one of the greatest Legacies in television history. For over 6 years and close 7, the International Channel has shown all 291 episodes of DBZ and 64 episodes of DBGT in their original format. Showcasing the lies of cowardly Saban, and the slightlier less cowardly Cartoon Network, and of course the biggest guilty party of all Funimation, the International Channel proved that everything on DBZ and DBGT could indeed be shown completely uncut without no censorship and with the original score still booming. Try as hard as they might, skipping and cutting episodes and cutting 1/4 of DBGT, Funimation could never quite catch up and DBZ and DBGT and, excluding Funimation and Saban's first 2 seasons, the International Channle always showed the series first America in it's original, pure, true and honest format.

And most of all who could possibly forget that they are among the ones who inspired Chris Psaros to start up Dragon Ball Z Uncensored. For without the International Channel broadcasting of the series he would never have had sources to compare the English Funimationized and Sabanized episodes to. Had that not happened.... there'd be no DBZU, DBZOA, DBZU 2, and one can only wonder how much more terrible Funimation would have been in a world without the fan movements Chris Psaros inspired and led. Without these episodes having been shown on tv, you guys wouldn't be here reading these words, this site probably wouldn't even exist, and there'd still be 10,000's of more fans trapped under the ignorance, lies, deceptions and false propaganda spread by Funimation as the real show. Let's just be glad we don't live in such a world.

Farewell International Channel. Thanks for the memories and most of all, thank you for being the catalyst behind the creation of DBZU, and for the name Psaros being renown as more than simply just the name of a small (but very good) restaurant in Greece. And lastly, thanks for being one of the only three companies in America (the other two being Pioneer and Viz Manga) to treat the DB series and it's fans with the true respect that this damn great series has always deserved. That means a lot to us, perhaps far more than can be adequately expressed. Farewell, and thank you for the immense Legacy which you left behind. You shan't be forgotten and we shall always be grateful for what it is that you have done for us, DB, and all of anime fandom itself. Farewell good friends, farewell.

Well, it appears we owe everyone an apology once again. Despite valliant efforts, the Project S script for today will not be posted. It's a shame, too; today's the last episode. I recommend watching it anyway, though. The end credits are worth watching no matter what language they're in.

Sorry again, folks. There's only so much we can do, and this time none of it seemed to want to work. In any case, check out the two new opinions from Saiyaman and myself if you haven't done so already.

Cripes, I'm up late. Anyway, with Fan Submissions back open, I just thought I'd rear my ugly head again to remind you all that about 80% of fanfiction on the internet is crap. Yes, you heard me. I'm not taking it back.

With us today is another little editorial by me explaining one of the many reasons why. It can be found here. Please give it a read if you're into writing fanfiction, as we want to make our section a place where pieces of that other 20% can be found.

Also, I'll reiterate, the Writer's Workshop is there on the message boards for anyone who wants some help improving their story before they post it somewhere. (Here? ^_^)

Blah, blah, blah, blah, new editorial, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Also, more non-news on Movie 9. Funimation's latest Prime Anime came out (http://www.dragonballz.com/prime/17/17.htm) and it has no news whatsoever on Movie 9. Hmm... this is starting to weird me out, especially since their faq states that new movies will come out "every 3-6 months". (of course, the Faq is really out of date to begin with and seriously needs to be updated) If any of you guys would feel like e-mailing Funimation and asking what the deal is, go for it.

Also, some rumblings on 4Kids and Funimation. (Mainly what'd appear to be a "Dragon Ball GT"ing of Detective Conan) I'd go more into it but, nah. Others have already reported it. Just check Anime News Network's news section for more on this.

Man oh man oh man.... all you One Piece fans are REALLY going to like my new editorial. That's all I have to say about that. :) And to think, I don't even run a One Piece site and I've already scooped up this news.

Also, for those who missed my January 27th update, be sure to check it out. So far, we've had 3 entries, with one pending and more promised. There are still 7 chances left to win the DBZ contest of a lifetime (DBZ fansub VHS movies 9-13 + GT Special and the real "uncut" [ie, bonus footage, man why does Funi always cut those extras?] DB Movie 4 which I'm now throwing in, all for free) so enter now and don't be left behind!

Also, I'll put up all the new editorial responses this weekend. SSJLeia's going to be in charge of DBGTU when she does some other review things (I'm still in the dark of that) but I may put up Ultraseiya's review early this weekend or Friday.

Finally, I can tell you with 100% assurance that DBZ Budokai 2 will INDEED be coming to Gamecube at some point. When, I dunno, but it'll be coming. Let's just hope that the European addition is smart enough to use the Japanese voices. I mean, hey, lots of Europeans were dissapointed at the switch, and Nintendo's going to need something extra to get PS2 owners to make the upgrade switch. They're a pretty smart company, so let's hope they make this happen.

Hey guys. Just for the record, I wasn't calling DB UK "mainstream." I just happened to mention the whole "mainstream" issue after talking about them a bit. Sorry for any confusion.

Now for some big news. Remember that editorial from Funimation I responded to a while back ago? I found something similar one might call a treasure trove... Another editorial from somebody at Funimation? No... Two editorials? No.... Three editorials. Still no. FIVE editorials? No! TEN editorials? Hah hah, nope. TWENTY EDITORIALS?! Okay, now you're getting too high...

Basically, someone from Funimation under the name "Underfaker" wrote.... (drum roll) ELEVEN WHOLE editorials and submitted them to the site Temple of Trunks! You can read them all here! And man, this guy says some really stupid stuff. Like at one point he BLAMES hardcore fans for bitching about Rock the Dragon and says something to the extent that "it's YOUR fault! Us dubbies LOVED THAT SONG! But, NO, no no no no no, NOOOOO! They changed it because of you guys! It's YOUR FAULT! You should have just shut up and just been happy about it!" Um... yeah. Forgive us for not realizing Funimation would be so incompetent that they'd replace it with something even worse. Besides, wasn't it YOUR company's idea to take that godawful Faulconer song and slap it all over 200+ DBZ episodes? When we complained about Rock the Dragon, that's not exactly what we were asking for in return. (actually, something more along the lines of a dub of Head Cha La and other songs. But we're probably not EVER going to get that, now that the great Bruce Faulconer and his big white cat Mr. Fluffles are returning for one last round of casio synthesizing and endlessly recycled college kid-composed music.)

He then calls us original version fans "a bunch of deranged brainwashing cultists" (argh! I command you all to kill everybody from Funimation! And send me all of your money! Do this and I'll give you eternal salvation in Heaven!) and other assorted garbage, even going so far as to defend some of Saban's and the entire dub's worst censored lines of all time. ("Good thing it was a Sunday or those buildings would have been empty!") Ordinarily, I'd jump on the chance to respond to some assclown like this and reply to all his editorials. But you know what?

ELEVEN FREAKING EDITORIALS IS JUST TOO MUCH RIGHT NOW! And this guy's.... man. Just trying to get through responding to... one of them... drove me half-insane. Granted, if this is a look into "Funimation's head" and what many of those people think at that company about DBZ, I can't help but say that that really terrifies me, and it explains A LOT about why the show's handled the way it is and why they many of them (but thankfully, NOT all, I can personally say) seem completely unable to relate to any fans who aren't happy with Funimation and aren't dubbies with virtually no exposure to the original version. (ie, "the majority of all DBZ-viewing fans in America") But like I said earlier, I'm getting tired of just replying to Funimation's arguments all the time and I want to take the site in some new and different directions. Maybe if Funimation had just butchered Movie 9's music I'd have something to piss me off and get me energized but, man, I need a change of pace. However-

I've shown these editorials to several of my friends and they've all been very outraged. But none of them replied to em, since back then I told em, "relax, I'll handle it." So, that being said- I leave it to all of YOU GUYS, the viewers and readers of dbzoa, to reply to his eleven editorials should you so choose! Don't like him comparing you to Scientologists, Moonies or brainwashed Japanese wackos setting off gas bombs in Tokyo subways? Submit an editorial in reply to one (or more) of his wacky editorials! And as an added incentive to you guys since I'm in such a good mood right now, as a very special offer, I'll give one of the people who respond to his editorials DBZ Movies 9-13 (+ DBGT Tv Special) on good-quality VHS fansubs! That's right, ALL SIX movies that are still unreleased in the States! Something that WON'T all be out till 2006! Hell, I'll even autograph em for ya as fansub collectibles/trophies! How's that for some motivation, eh? Only requirement is they all gotta be answered first (all 11) before I pick a favorite based on my own judgement. So if you got ANY editorial/opinion responses you want to make to any one (or more) of this Funi person's editorials, come by the DBZOA's "Dubbed DBZ" message boards, join up and post em there in a topic. Oh yeah, and please don't reply to the first of the ones Underfaker did, ("The DBZ Cult") Ultraseiya said some pretty interesting things to me when he first read that, and I think he might want to reply to that one.

Where: News Update
By: GreatSaiyaman777

Ah, so much news to report, and all in one update no less.

First off, the dub of DBZ Movie 9 is definitely finished. Props go out to Dragon Ball Z UK for finding this out first. When I first heard it though I didn't quite trust them, since I didn't know their site very well. I even e-mailed the guy asking him if he'd explain to me how he knew this- but not a peep! Eventually I was able to independently verify what he said. At first I was mad at them for not telling me but.... I can relate. I'm not one to give out my sources either. Well, I guess that that means they're definitely trustworthy. Man, how could I ever doubted a site nice enough to mention the Faulconer news? Especially since most of the "mainstream" sites (cough, some obvious names I won't bother to mention, particularly the sites that weren't nice enough to even bother e-mailing me back when I e-mailed them and politely told them I linked to them, cough) would be too frightened to ever do something like that that could potentially offend their (potential/existant) allies at Funimation and their site's mass viewing audience, and are already the types who would be quite nervous about an openly critical and harsh (aka, honest and thus, "controversial") site like the dbzoa. But oh well, we're not here to be a part of the mainstream, we're just here to be honest and open and be ourselves.

Second, Movie 9's music. Now... I'm not definitely sure what it'll be. I probably could have found out already, but I figured I'd let Funimation have this one since I already found out about Movie 8's music and, most of all, about the redub's music. (shudder. "Angry Piccolo" in surround sound remastered on my big screen, while Scott McNeil gets confined to Saban history... um, yay?) However- from what I've heard I do know that there is a possibility it might still have the original music. The odds of that would probably be... 25% (okay, that probably is stretching it a bit since they virtually never use any original music for DBZ) but I do know that there's at least some remote chance it could be in there. I heavily doubt it and I know always to expect the worst, but I guess some chance is better than no chance.

Third of all- Dragon Ball Z Saiyan Smash for the Gamecube? What about it? Well, I can't really say why, but- I can say that you shouldn't be too surprised if it turns out to be an rpg. While I'm not 100% sure I do know that Funimation has spoken before of releasing a DBZ rpg on Gamecube in 2004, and it does sound like this one could be a sure bet for what they were talking about, if what they said does come to pass in the way they said it would.

Fourth, Narultimate Hero, aka the incredibly awesome Naruto fighting game out on the PS2 in Japan. There are rumors in the industry that, due to Naruto's large popularity already out in the states (mainly from Shonen Jump, and secondly from a fair number of fansubs making the rounds. Not to mention that some are predicting it's marketing to perhaps become "DBZ-esque" in terms of popularity so to speak in the future) that there's been talk of them bringing the game (or possibly more Naruto games in the future as well) over to America relatively soon due to the large fanbase it already has. Personally I'd really welcome this, as my lack of Japanese skills and Naruto's text-heaviness and loads of Japanese voice acting made it difficult for me to really understand. As long as they don't try to dub it they should be fine. Not that the tv dub when it does inevitably come will automatically suck, but one thrust together just for a videogame probably would. But if this does happen I wouldn't worry about that, producers/developers wouldn't want to (or maybe be allowed to) create a dub cast prior to the dub coming out as that'd lead players to expect the American dub to eventually sound the same as well.

Finally, opinions. I've been doing it for a while and I realize... of all of the excuse Funimation uses to defend themselves (most of which I've basically shot down long ago) there are only 6 left I haven't gotten to! (I'll save those bits as ammunitions for much later, when Movie 9 probably has it's music replaced) While I do know that it's virtually impossible to make any headway at all with main executives like Barry Watson, I do know for a fact that I've managed to sway some opinions over there. But in any case, I'm growing weary of just talking directly to the company itself most of the time- I want to start talking mainly to the fans, you guys. That's what Psaros did most of the time and I seem to be doing the other way around with Funimation. So, be expecting to see a few changes around here.

And P.S., KevinTRod maintainer of YGO Uncensored has- well, I guess I should let him be the one to tell youthe news.

What possesses me to write so possessedly I know not, perhaps Apollo is really my father. Now if you'll excuse me, Gen Fukunaga and Bruce Faulconer have apparently struck a deal with Hades to acquire my soul, and only the combined might of Hercules and Xena can save me now.

Hey hey hey, got a new interview up. This one's from the author of the infamous "Freeza" comic which some of you might remember and it answers a couple of interesting questions behind how the comic got created.

Also, some news on DBZ Movie 9. Apparently- it might not be released in February? This would be very odd, as new movie releases by FUNimation have almost always been done in February and August of each year. They have said something about releasing Movie 9 cards early (http://www.collectoressentials.com/p1022-219-dbz-ccg-alt-foil-goku-the-unbeatable.html, apparently they're already out eh? Heh, I gotta say that Zanya looks pretty hot) to "help familiarize fans with the plot, story and characters!" but I personally think they just did some research/test-marketing and decided that movie DVD's released in April would sell better. The only date out there listed among all the sites (Dragon Ball Unlimited, Saiyan Prince ) seems to be sometime in April, which wouldn't surprise me since Funimation's latest Anime Report (http://www.dragonballz.com/prime/16/16.htm) doesn't even make any mention of DBZ Movie 9.

Oh well, no big. While I can't say for 100% certain I have a strong feeling it'll probably be just like Movie 9 (good director, good writer, stupid censored curse words, lame shitty music that makes the dub not worth watching more than once, cough, cough, Movie 8) so I can't say I'm too excited about what FUNimation's latest attempts to "wow" the fans will be. Even at their best (Movie 6) they still lack considerably compared to the original version. (the ending song of Movie 6 "Hero", man... totally owns Mark Menza)

Finally, I've recently gotten an Uncensored Anime review of a DBGT FUNimation dubbed episode from a fan which I should have up soon in my next update. With luck, perhaps there'll be more DBGT Uncensored reviews from him in the future like when Vekou reviewed the first half of the Piccolo Daimaoh saga.

A person I've spoken to a few times in the past known as Nephalim33 (best known for his work on the DBZ/GT dual-soundtrack petition) recently submitted an editorial detailing his thoughts on fan reactions, the redub's music and what the fans should be doing right now. It's a good read and if you're worried about what'll happen to the redub then you should especially make sure to read it over.

Hello. First off, the big news. Funimation has already dubbed the first 16 episodes of DBGT... beyond this, I don't really have any information on them. But given recent events, I suspect the Untalented Mr. Menza will probably be doing the music for them. (I shudder to imagine what he'll do to the Don Para Para Brothers's song, one of the funniest moments in DB. More rap music perhaps? Ugh...)
Also, I've made a few updates to the DBZU 2 links, fixing a Pokemon Movie Uncensored link, (it turns out the original version of the movie was actually pretty good- and intelligent and mature! When I saw the dub of it in theatres years ago, I literally thought that it was one of the most horrible movies of all time I'd ever seen, easily one of the worst three and competing for the worst of all time.) adding DBZ UK to the lineup, and Duncan Roberts's site. Finally, don't forget to check out the new opinion piece.

Oh, and my apologies for that whole thing earlier Mr. Roberts, you're actually a pretty nice guy. Oh yeah, be sure to check out the sound clips on his site (especially the Metal Gear ones) as they're really hilarious. And if you like them, please send the guy nice e-mails letting him know, okay?

You know.... I really hate to have to be the harbinger of bad news. But unfortunately, DBZ fans are bound to have to hear about this eventually, so it's better they know now as opposed to several months from now when it'll be too late to do anything about it. So here goes-

Bruce Faulconer is coming back and is being rehired by Funimation to replace DBZ's original music for every last second of all 63 episodes of the DBZ redub. To find out more on the most incredibly shitty piece of DB news to grace fans since Funimation announced they were putting rap music in DBGT, check out the new opinion piece.

Hope everyone had/is still having a great holiday! ^_^

Hello..... Um... what are you doing here today? It's Christmas dude! You should be opening presents and hanging out with your family and- well... as long as you're here, guess it's up to me to do an update.

Anyway, here's my Christmas gift to you all, it's a link to an old comic from Planet Namek that tries to answer the question "What if?" Freeza found out that Funimation made him gay, where he goes to earth to blow up Funimation headquarters and- well, anyway, enjoy.

Also, don't forget to give good ol' Chris Psaros (otaku@deepthought.armory.com) some of the Holidays cheer and wish him a merry Christmas and Happy New Year. And if you do speak to him, could you ask him to give me some help on how to do episode comparisons? I'm close to reviewing Season 6 and haven't spoken to him in forever and could use some of his expert advice.

And finally, merry Christmas to you all and may you all have a happy new year!

P.S.- Just uploaded the entire comic to dbzoa since the archives were acting funny for a couple people. Special thanks to Mr. Nick Giannoutsos for originally creating this and SkullMac for uploading it to Namek. Coincidentally, Skullmac uploaded it almost 4 years ago to this day. Man, those coincidences eh?

I know what you're all saying. "Fan submissions is dead! He closed that months ago!" Well, you're right. It is closed, and it will remain so, as I don't believe fan fiction really fits in with the overall theme of our site. However, there is a fellow out there who's been in contact with me for a while, and apparently his dream is to have a fic posted here. Well, I was never one to quash dreams (*has to shut several people up very quickly*), so I let him have a go at it. He's been waiting for a while for me to post it too, so this will be my gift to him this holiday season. The fic is called The Extreme Hauntings, and a description can be found by following the links above. Chapters 1-10 have been posted, but there was a formatting problem with the last five that I ddin't feel like fixing. It is Christmas Eve, after all. I'll fix it when I put up the rest of the stuff I've been sitting on, which will be this weekend whether I hear back from the person I'm waiting on or not.

And a happy [whatever holiday you celebrate] to everyone! ^_^

Not really an update, more of a repair. You see, when the features page went down, it was my fault. I've been meaning to fix it (and tried a couple of times unsuccessfully), but stuff kept happening. Poor ol' Saiyaman, too. He wanted to put a few more things in there, and he's been nothing but patient with me. I would've kicked my ass by now. Thanks, buddy.:)

In other news, the OA is now three years old. Well, it was on December sixth. We got caught up in finals and stuff and sort of forgot about it.:P Anyway, for those of you who didn't catch it in the forums, there will be a birthday chat on AIM on Saturday at 6:00 PM Pacific time. Rememember your time zones, folks. If you want in, just locate one of the staffers and we'll invite you. Also, and I'm sorry, but due to some...incidents at last year's birthday chat, only members of the site (i.e. the forums) will be allowed in.

I've got plenty more stuff to throw at you, as I've been slacking off and letting things pile up lately, but they won't be going up now because I'm sick as a dog. A lame dog that has trouble breathing and whose muscles are sore to the point of absurdity. In any case, look for a big chunk from me around the end of the weekend. It'll be up before Christmas for sure, as I've got a promise to keep.^_^

Go by the message board below to find out more! And for everybody who doesn't hate 4Kids, DON'T forget how horribly they've been butchering Shaman King.

And for all you Yugioh fans, don't forget to check out these movies to catch a glimpse of the real Yugioh that 4Kids does NOT want you to see. Heyas. Just thought I'd make a little guide here on when the future DBZ/GT releases will be.

Given their habit of "6 months apiece" between releases, Movie 9 should be release at some point in September. (could be any day of the month, late or early) Last time when they announced their "new music" for Movie 8 they did so about 2 months in advance prior to it's release. The only times they haven't made "pre-announcements" have been for movies 6 and 7, which were scored for movie 6 by Mark Menza and "scored" for movie 7 by Mark Menza. (personally, I don't even think Movie 7's music was good enough to be classified as real music) 4, 5, and 8 were announced early because they had a small handful of songs by Disturbed, Linkin Park and Pantera which, of course, FUNimation felt would help appeal to their so-called "target audience" of everybody from those who wear diapers to those still in Jr. High.

If FUNimation doesn't make an announcement beforehand, than you can either expect the dub of the movie to most likely have just Mark Menza or... the original soundtrack. While it would be a truly amazing thing to include, I'm not about to hold my breath as the idea of Funimation deciding to dub one of the DBZ movies completely right which so far seems virtually impossible. (even though all of their "Lupin III" movies will be including their original soundtracks, cough, cough, double-standard hypocrites) I could probably have found out what music would be in Movie 9 but.... I just haven't been interested in doing so. There's more important news out there about the state of DBZ in America right now and you'll understand why in a little bit from now.

Also, at the rate GT's been showing on tv...
Dubbed DBGT episode 22 will premier on December 26th, 2003.
Dubbed DBGT episode 30 will premier on February 20th, 2004.
Dubbed DBGT episode 40 will premier on April 30th.
Dubbed DBGT episode 50 will premier on July 9th.
Dubbed DBGT episode 60 will premier on September 17th.
The final Dubbed DBGT episode 64 will premier on October 15th.

Good Guardian of the earth! They're really dragging this thing out! By the time it's over on tv it'll be time for the next election! And there's no telling what they'll do with the first 15 episodes they skipped. (if they'll be on tv or when they'll actually release them) Oh well. Speaking of which, if anybody would be interested in doing DBGT comparisons like how Vekou reviewed the first half of the Piccolo Daimaoh saga, then drop me a line. Believe me, if you were to decide to do so then you'd have absolutely no trouble at ALL keeping up with the episodes showing on tv.

Hello. You know the drill, another update. I plan on reviewing the DBZU 2 episodes soon (you'll know the plan then) and am trying to knock stuff out of the way first that I've been meaning to do. I can only think of two other opinions I'd want to write before then, one of which will be one of the "big four" updates I was talking about earlier.

Opinions looks pretty cool with all those "New" next to em, eh? I'm almost tempted to take a screenshot while it lasts. Also, I've been thinking of reviewing DB movie 4. Even though it's insanely long and it makes Movie 8 look as long as Movie 1, I'm tempted to do it and I'd have plenty of time to work on it over the break if I did decide to do it.

Hey. Lots of updates, eh? Well, I didn't have much time to update this semester, and now I have lots of free time so... enjoy it while it lasts.

Anyway, I added another Shaman King site to the list of Anime Uncensored Websites in my DBZU2 links. (thanks to Darkfox for telling me about it and KatanaJon for telling me about the new Card Captor Sakura site) I've also revamped my dubbing companies feature (http://dbzoa.net/features/dubbingcompanies.html) to include the infamous Nelvana and a couple of other companies whose names escape me at the moment. I know Features is still f**cked up, but hopefully it should finally, finally be fixed soon.

Now for something different... news on the licensing of Naruto. How I know this information, I'm really not at liberty to tell you. (don't want to reveal one of my sources, and can't say anything about my other source) But if you know my reputation for honest and accurate information, then that should be enough for you. Now then.... Pioneer will be looking into picking up Naruto in 2004. FUNimation has done some looking into picking up the series as well, though from the looks of things I don't think they're going to pick it up. Also, 4Kids has apparently been looking into picking it up too... I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed and hope that they don't succeed. If you know me fairly well than you probably already know that I think 4Kids are many, many times worse than Funimation and are actually the single most horrible anime dubbing company in all of America. Since apparently Naruto is one of the number-one most desired anime series not yet licensed, many other companies should be looking into it too and hopefully one of them will outbid 4Kids. If 4Kids actually does sink it's poisoned claws into Naruto's throat, that'll just be yet another unfortunate reason why fans should really group together and form an Anti-4Kids Otaku Alliance to stand up to them.

I've finished watching the first 58 episodes of Naruto and its tv special. Wow... it's definitely one really amazing anime. I don't think I've enjoyed an anime this much since DBZ. I actually think it could have the potential to make anime truly mainstream (ie, it's actually targetted to a wider audience including older people, instead of just little kiddies) if put on a respectable time slot like after the Simpsons. But, some crappy dubbing company is bound to pick it up, misdub it, censor the hell out of it and then get on their hands and knees to beg CN or FoxBox to pick it up, as is usually the case. I can already picture Al Kahn telling stockholders that 4Kids is going to be doing "everything they can" to target Naruto for the diaper tots-to Jr. High School crowd, like they always have and like what Funimation is still doing with DBZ and DBGT.

Also, I've update my Naruto opinion piece for anyone who's made the mistake of buying the DVD's or has thought about doing so. One guy did so, so I figured I should warn the rest about you. In addition I've updated the general Links page to include a new petition and my DBZU2 links page to include some new anime uncensored sites. Of particular note is the page on Initial D. I listened to some clips and I can't get the song "Station to Station" out of my head now. But the dub theme song- man, I erased that from my memory almost instantly. It's like they took some random white guy off the street, tossed him inside some garage/basement with a no-name band then had him rehearse for ten minutes before calling it a day. I might even go so far as to say that Initial D.'s dub music is even worse than GT's.

Wow, do one political update and a lot of people get offended. Guess that's natural with a country that's almost evenly divided right now. But, you guys don't come here to hear politics and dbzoa's about anime, not Republicans and Democrats fighting each other, right? Sorry to anyone offended, I certainly wouldn't want to go to one of my favorite non-political sites and hear about how the Democrats are sympathizing with the terrorists or something like that. It's just that I almost always talk about anime and just wanted to say something else more importantright now about the state of our country. I mean, what's more important? Talking about how Gen Fukunaga is an overgrown twinkie and is a traitor to his race or talking about how Haliburton is- hmm... Well, I definitely can tell which one most of you would rather hear about when you come here, heh heh. If you wanted to hear the other stuff you'd just go to some news site.

If I ever do decide to write anything else political on dbzoa.net I'll probably do it in the form of an editorial instead where it'll remain completely seperate from any of my other works on the sites. Anyway, please don't be too mad at me. We all have our opinions and I just wanted to take the opportunity to express mine. Been a long while since I update eh? Sorry for the wait. Anyway, what I'd been trying to do was get an anonymous interview with someone (VA actually) from FUNimation. Why the anonymity? Heh, because I know from prior experiences that FUNimation will never in 1000 years give anyone permission to be interviewed by the dbzoa or talk to them (doesn't stop them though!) and their contracts are quite harsh.

In any case, it may have fallen apart but I'm not too mad. The person was very nice and considerate, and it was their right to back out if they so chose and I respect that. We did talk a little bit though, and some of what the person commented to me was,

"I appreciate your comments. But to tell you the truth (and I apologize) they are wasted on me. I'm just an actor...its not my company. I go in for an hour or so maybe once a week, if I'm lucky. I get handed the script...(not knowing who wrote it) half the time I don't even know what director I will get or even what character I'm reading for. I pretty much do what the director says and I go home. My opinion wouldn't matter even if it was valid. I could argue or whatever until I'm blue in the face...and all I would get is..."we won't be calling that person again." I don't know what goes on there...and that's okay with me.

I'm happy to be working, I appreciate the fans and their loyalty and concern for good quality stuff... But it's not up to me. I could try to pass this along... if you would like? and I'd try to answer anything that I could... but believe me, you know much more about this than I do."

Hmm... Well... the person does make a good point. It really is up to the directors to get everything right, make sure that the scripts are good and so forth. Look at YYH and Fruits Basket- directed mainly by Justin Cook. Dragon Ball- well, Mike McFarland who directed Movie 8 directs most of that. DBGT? Mainly by... Barry Watson. ("Yeh yeh yeh homie, let's all be steppin into tha grand tour g-dogz! Ah yeah! We gonna done be blazin it like sandlewood, straight from the hood, outta da woods an inta outa space real real good!") And I'm not going to name any names just yet, but one particular major director called up a friend from OUTSIDE of FUNimation to complain about a dumb line in the script. Why? Because he'd never SEEN the Majin Buu saga before (I watched HALF of it in one day, Mr. Youknowwho) and neither had ANYONE else at FUNimation bothered to do so.

Basically, if the director's a person of skill and integrity who truly cares about the end product and doing it right (Justin Cook) you have nothing to fear from the dub. But if the guy's a big idiot who could "clearly give two shits less about production" (Barry Watson) you can expect Neel Bligh to "beef up" half the series and some talentless hack from out of Dallas to musically spray feces on the whole thing. Most VA's can't live alone just off of VA wages (since anime VA's are still underpaid by the industry- that's why at least 2 VA's, Ian Corlett and Mark Britten, left FUNi before in the past) and thus, can't devote the huge quantities of time necessary for studying all the many anime dubbing they're required to do. That's why the small handful of directors (paid enough to focus on that aspect of dubbing full-time) need to be the ones who know what they're doing.

Well, thanks to the person who spoke to me and no, I'm not telling any of you who it was. FUNimation's contracts got strict after someone from FUNi spoke to Planet Namek (and/or some other sites) and "leaked" the "Burger King, some kind of contest involving the Trunks saga Driving episodes edited tapes for free" news. After said event, Barry Watson went absolutely apeshit over the "leak" and almost immediately made everybody at FUNimation sign severely harsh legal contracts with large penalties for "defiers." That's one of the reasons why regular interviews with people FUNi (which used to be fairly common in the good ol' days) are so rare now. So you see, that in addition to my word of honor is why I can't tell who speaks to me. If I did that, nobody from FUNi would be willing to help me out or speak to me, and it'd be pretty rude of me to try to get them punished for doing so. So please try to understand.

Also, got a new opinion piece up. Finally, "Features" has been temporarily down since one staffer accidentally messed-up the html. However, it should be fixed and back up as good as normal fairly soon.

Hey, sorry bout the recent lack of updates. I've been kind of busy on a pretty big project right now. Can't exactly say what it is... and I don't want to ruin the surprise... but please keep your fingers crossed and hoep that it goes well. :)

Also, I've got some sad news... the website ocean-db.net is about to shut down it's doors. It's news and forums just recently shut down. For those who don't know about it, it was one of the best DBZ sites within the past year (at a time when DBZ sites are becoming fewer and fewer) and was a very interesting and informative place to go for information on the Ocean Group and the Ocean dub. Actually, it was pretty funny too, and had an unusually high concentration of funny/intelligent people on their message boards compared to what most have on average. Unfortunately, as time goes by not all websites and message forums will last forever. At the very least though, there are always the web archives which never cease to surprise me at the sheer amount and diversity of content they always somehow manage to capture and store.

In any case, in honor of the ocean-db.net, I've set up a tribute board to it along with the Ocean dub itself and ukdb.net. Any of you former members from there are more than welcome to join. Just please be sure to try to keep the spam invasions down to a minimum if you do. ;)

Just saw the first GT dubbed episode today. It started at the "starter" episode (episode made up of "clips" that takes place before GT episode 16) and still had Mark Menza's music.... wow. I guess, at the very least, it's nice that they're leaving in a few moments of silence. I guess FUNimation is now taking their audience at least slightly more maturely.

Anyway, there is some good news however. I was speaking to a person from FUNimation on AIM and I brought up that "DBZ dual-soundtrack petition" and that person said, "Wow, that sounds like a good idea. I wonder if they'd listen to it?" so I can personally attest to Nephalim33's claim that he's gotten "positive responses" from some people at FUNimation. Anyway, GT's already been dubbed and scripted. But there's still hope for the music in future DVD. And if not, then perhaps in the DBZ redub or the rest of the movies.

So, ladies and gentlemen, to ANYONE out there who's angry and pissed off right now, don't complain- instead, channel your energy into signing and supporting this petition and getting as many other people as humanly possible to do so to. I am behind this petition 1,000,000% and think that it's easily one of the top 3 best DBZ petitions ever written (and mind you, there's a lot of "competition" in the DBZ petition field considering that there are so dang many of them). So again- if ANY of you are upset, then stop what you're doing and just SIGN THE PETITION. Let's put our hopes and dreams into it and hope that things turn out for the better in the end.

Heya's, more updates. First of all my opinion piece on 4Kids got accepted over at YGO Uncensored, woohoo! Surprisingly, it said a lot of positive things about FUNimation. Then again, I imagine any dubbing company can't help but look good next to 4Kids. On the other hand, I have to admit that FUNimation actually... rocks with most of it's anime dubs. Unfortunately, whenever something with the words "Dragon Ball Z" or "Dragon Ball GT" appears before them they still insist on whacking themselves on the heads with mallets and calling up Christopher Neel and Mark Menza and telling them to "work their magic", so I still can't say that FUNimation is a "real" or good anime dubbing company. I mean, who knows what they'll do to the redub? They already stated that they were, "considering the possibility of of releasing the early episodes uncut, with new dubbed audio tracks to maintain consistency with the current releases" and they're not exactly the kind of people who are ever in a hurry to stop doing something idiotic despite how dumb it may be or what anyone thinks about them.

Also, I made a small correction to my DBZ Budokai on PS2 article. Of course, DBZ Budokai just came out REMASTERED on Gamecube, so I have to make another one for that and at this current point and I doubt the PS2 one will be of much interest to you. However, come Christmas you'll be glad I wrote that. Trust me, you DON'T want to have to spend several hours listening to Josh Martin and Justin Cook's awful renditions of all Majin Buu's forms grunting (Well except for Kid Buu, which was the ONLY one FUNimation got right). You'll be grateful for that PS2 article soon enough.

Finally, I wrote another article too about the anime and fansubbing of Naruto, lots of info on that. Maybe I'll write something similar on One Piece too once I've watched a lot of it...

What's up? First of all, I've made some updates to the links section. The link to the lovely Ms. Meredith McCoy's site has now been fixed. Also, after having received a request to help support a petition for subtitled uncut "Magical Doremi" I altered the Petitions section to Anime petitions as well as Dragon Ball petitions, and made a few other additions there. (one petition since then was retired by it's author since what it was hoping for recently came to past)

What's Magical Doremi? Well... I don't know much about it honestly, and it hasn't come to America yet. However, it's a girl's anime whose popularity seems to mirror Sailor Moon's... and it's recently been licensed by 4Kids. That's right, the worst anime dubbing company North on the North American continent now has another show ready for the butchering treatments.

4Kid CEO Al Kahn- "The designs are pretty so they appeal to girls, but the characters are very sexy so boys like them. We're hoping to mix and match the block's gender appeal."

Step 1. Show off pretty designs to girls. Step 2. Give bonars to 4-year old boys throughout the country. Step 3. Profits. Some fans are already expecting a "Card Captors/Nelvana" type-treatment with this one. Honestly, I'm not holding my breath for 4Kids. They're worse than FUNimation even on FUNimation's worst days, and after seeing Shaman King I doubt they're anywhere near to cleaning up their act yet.

Speaking of which, the new 4Kids board at dbzoa has proven to be pretty popular in a relatively short period of time. Heh, I didn't know just how much 4Kids sucked or how many people hated them till it opened. Hopefully this place should become a mecca for 4Kids-haters in the future and- well, you saw my last opinion piece. Big shout-out to the website maintainers of the two Yu-Gi-Oh! sites (see DBZU2 Links) for helping advertise the place.

Also, Yu-Gi-Oh! Uncensored has altered their opinion pieces format. Now they accept opinion pieces not just dealing with Yu-Gi-Oh, but all other animes and thing relating misdubbed by 4Kids. Currently the closest thing out there to an "Anti-4Kids Otaku Alliance," if you have anything you'd like to say about 4Kids I'd highly recommend writing in. I recently made a submission about 4Kids that I'm hoping will make the cut.

Finally, for anyone wondering after this update, yes this is still "DBZU2" but hey- I'm against all good animes being butchered and raped, whether it's Gen Fukunaga leading the way or newcomer Al Kahbong trying to get in on the action. I'm still not happy with the way DBZ's being treated and I'm still going to stick up for it, until it finishes or FUNimation actually gets their act together for what little's still left.

Also, I have a new, and definite, time date- December around Christmas. That's when my first (well, second) Majin Buu episode comparison will be coming in, and I'll be switching over to mainly episode comparisons. Yes, that is the new official date and I'll be sticking to it. If I don't then may Piccolo "trap me in the next dimension" with Justin Cook's Super Buu where I'll be turned into candy and forced to listen to his awful voice for all eternity.

Well, hope you all enjoyed the OA story. I've certainly had fun rereading parts of it. Also, I've got a new opinion up in regards to the company 4Kids. It's- well, I've seenpeople complain about them consistently for years, and there are so many discontent fans out there that I really think they need to find some way of gathering together to form a united community.

Also, I don't usually advertise other sites's stuff but there's a really good new opinion piece over at ocean-db.net by Marzak Ahmed about how badly Tokyopop has been butchering a certain anime. Heh. I guess this just goes to show that FUNimation, regardless of how bad they still are, are no longer the worst anime dubbing company out there. They were a couple of years ago, but I guess now it looks like 4Kids and Tokyopop must be fighting over the crown.

Heh heh... any of you guys read the "OA story" yet? It's absolutely one of the funniest things I've ever read but unfortunately I really don't think it's gotten the publicity it deserves just yet. Hell, I was even considering trying to write myself into the story or getting crusaderoflight88 to do so. In any case, make sure to check it. I recommend no more than 10 or 15 chapters per viewing as it's pretty long, and it'd be shame to go through it all in just one setting.

I'm baaack. And with the help of some more... help, I've re-updated my "DBZ Budokai" editorial. Heh, only 4 more questions left and maybe then I'll finally move it into "Features." With DBZ Budokai coming out remastered on Gamecube near the end of this month I figured now would be a good time to finish talking about getting DBZB on PS2. (the sequel's on PS2 in December too) Hopefully, getting an import of DBZB to play on Gamecube should be a LOT less complicated then this. (and screw you Mr. "You hardcore guys will just have to import it" idiot writer of that DBZ Budokai article for making it sound so simple and easy to do, and not giving us fans jack in terms of help or instructions)

Also, some new news. FUNimation has FINALLY made an official statement saying that DBGT will be premiering on "October 7th." In their "prime anime report" (something they send to everyone who's either ever e-mailed them or joined their message board, or given them their e-mail address) they state, "DBGT HITS CARTOON NETWORK - November 7 -". This is about the 3rd time that a different date has been set. It might be a typo, it might not be. Not sure why they've kept delaying it... maybe they decided to go back and put in GT's original music and that's what the holdup is?....

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! But seriously, you guys should. I mean, you really ARE looked down upon and despised by every other company and person in the industry, (and that ain't no joke or me just shooting my mouth Funi- I actually know that for a fact) so shouldn't you do something to try and clean up what little remaining reputation you still ha- ah... I forgot, reputation among fans is the least important thing that FUNimation Productions ever worries about. My apologies for bringing up something so incredibly insignificant to you, and I sincerely wish you the best of luck in hiring another new musician with absolutely no talent from Dallas to replace the DBZ redub's music as well! And I sure do look forward to hearing some seriously hardcore "darn, heck" and "gosh" action during the Goku vs. Vegeta fight! Remember, keep keeping the "uncut" scripts PG-13 or the wrath of the soccer moms will fall on your shoulders, and we wouldn't want that to happen! (And man, I bet they're just going to go WILD with saying darn, heck and gosh countless times during the mondo cool Ginyu fight!)

Also, FUNimation's been running around anime conventions saying that they don't ever want to show the first 16 GT episodes on tv. But as Richard Strickland might so eloquently say, have no fear, FUNimation is here! They'll be releasing them on home video and DVD for fans to buy... and never be showing them on tv. I repeat, 25% of the 64 episode series GT will never be shown on tv, and FUNimation wants your money if you ever want to see them. (walks over to his GT fansub collection and kisses them all) Well, at least those bastards won't be getting their grubby hands on my money.

Oh, and last of all, FUNimation Productions President Gen Fukunaga-san has received an award from Purdue University for his excellence and success in the anime industry. Hey, well done Gen Fukunaga, I'm sure you deserved it! And I'm sure the fact that your father is a leading professor at that university had NOTHING at all to do with them deciding that a guy like you actually deserved some kind of an award. ;)

That's right; I'm up off my duff and have a fancy new update for you. We have two new anime reviews today. The first is for Hellsing done by our very own Ski. Thank you, Ski.

The next one is a bit of a special case, so let me explain. Every now and again, we'll be putting up reviews that aren't from the staff, but from members here or perhaps just by people in the online anime community who we think are really cool. I'm keeping this to a minimum so I don't get a bunch of people banging down my virtual door begging to do a review for us. If and when the time arises when we're short on staff reviews and I don't feel like reviewing anything myself, I'll put out a call for a guest review. This is where visiting the forums can really help you out.

That being said, allow me to introduce the second review this week. It's a review of Excel Saga by one of our members, Jickle. Thank you, Jickle. This guy is one of the biggest (if not the absolute biggest) Excel Saga fans I've ever seen, so it only seemed right to let him do a review of it for us.

Enjoy!

Hey. Vekou's come through again with another movie review- this time of the CN airing of DBZ movie 6. Not too bad of a movie, it fared pretty well. In fact, in terms of censorship it probably fared better than any movie, including the first 3 Pioneer ones which were given "edited" versions back during the days of Saban. (which would probably explain a lot...) Thanks again go to Vekou. Vekou's also going to be finished reviewing the first half of the Piccolo Daimao saga this Monday, so expect to see a LOT of updates in DBU next weekend.

Also, if anyone's curious Vekou's told me that he doesn't have any plans on reviewing DBGT which is premiering on CN next Friday. Can't really blame him. I thought about it too but... the dub's pretty much screwed over to begin with just with the mere presence of Menza's new music, and GT's just not my favorite anime. But if anyone's interested then hey, why not give it a shot? With only one new episode premiering a week it wouldn't be that hard to keep up with them. Plus, if you just buy the DVD's (with 100% uncut J. episodes and el perfecto translations) then you'll pretty much be set for comparing the two.

By: GreatSaiyaman777

Got ANOTHER thing in features. A review by a DBZ webmaster who went to Anime Expo 2000 and was able to talk to some people there. I also made some changes near the end of my "Polish DBZ Otaku" interview. (the dub's a LOT better than I originally made it out to be.)

Also, expect another special feature coming soon. After that, I'm pretty much going to cut back on features for a while. Slowly but surely, the emphasis is all going to the episode reviews...

Oh yeah, FUNIMATION'S DUB OF SEASON ONE SUCKS BIG FAT HAIRY ASS! I just got my hands on the original first 26 episodes, thanks to a friend of mine who sent me some copies. (and I thank you very much good sir, and I also look forward to seeing Citizen Kane.) The original is just.... lightyears ahead of the dub. Good music that's not all casio crap... music that's actually DRAMATIC. Moments of freaking SILENCE. (Yes Funi, fans can actually APPRECIATE silence so stop treating us all like hyper-ADD f**cking morons.) Blood? No scenes cut because FUNi was poor as hell? People dying? No ventriloquist dialogue? And perhaps even... no parachutes? (I haven't gotten there just yet, but I shall soon see firsthand... tis a moment I have awaited for a very long time...) I can see what Chris Psaros was talking about, and it kind of makes me wonder a little bit more just how the redub will be handled...

Hopefully they won't screw it up too bad. But then again, hey, who am the hell am I kidding? Having "hope" that FUNimation won't take their sharpened butchering cleaver and slice the hell out of this thing? This IS FUNimation we're talking about, and it's always been their self-appointed duty to happily butcher every bit of DBZ they get their hands on in some way or form, and there won't be any Toei executives watching over their shoulders to embarass and shame them into handling things right this time, right? "STEP INTO THE SAIYAN AND NAAAAMEK SAGA!" "SAIYAN AND NAMEK SAGA, SAIYAN AND NAMEK SAGA!" Ugh, I can see it already. I may be wrong, but after all these years I know better than to have ANY positive faith in them, and I'd truly be surprised as hell if they didn't screw up the redub too. Best to just expect the worst case scenario from them, as that's always pretty much been what they deliver. I mean, hey, if they'd hire a dude who sold sofas for 5 years and who knows jack about va'ing and directing to direct half of DBGT, then why the hell should anyone expect much else of them from the redub?

Yo. Just added the "dragonballgt.com" interviews to the features section. I figured that since dubbed DBGT premiers on CN a week from now and that they'll probably be taken down afterwards that I might as well store them here in "honor" of the event. I gotta say, I really liked Steph's interview, she's pretty cute and lively. The other ones... well, the other interviews just flatout sucked.

Also, we got a few interesting new features coming up soon including an answer to a long-asked question- why was Chris Sabat REALLY given way too many roles to do during Season 3? Stay tuned to find out why on the next exciiiiting update of dbzoaaaaaa.NET!

As a fan I wouldn't want to watch the Matrix or Star Wars or any other film with 5% of everything cut out, and the same certainly applies to the Dragon Ball Z films. However, this was apparently an unintended accident so my apologies for going a bit overboard there FUNimation. Your future actions in regards to this discovery should determine whether or not I was too harsh on you.

As much as I hate to admit it (only because I wish it wasn't true and that the movies weren't all being butchered) it turns out he was right. My apologies my good sir, you were right and we were mistaken.

Man this pisses me off even more than that whole "rap music in GT thing." At least THEN the J. episodes on DVD would be guaranteed to be 100% uncut. Now, regardless of what they do to the movies, it's guaranteed that they're going to cut out a full 5% of what you see during every SINGLE second of the movie. Oh brother... Funimation still has a very, very, VERY long ways left to go before they should even think about trying to pass themselves off as a "real" anime company.

Heya's. Got a new opinion piece up. And let me tell, it was sooo NICE to finally be able to write a whole opinion piece without once having to utter the "f word." (and I'm not talking about the 4-letter one) It's actually about Yamucha and how he wound up getting screwed over in the anime/manga.

Oh, and in other news the Trunks saga is showing on CN currently... that is, the craptacular dub of it. I turned it on, heard Faulconer's "Psycho music, cause Kind Cold is like this kind of psycho guy and it fits him, you know?" when Goku and Trunks powered-up, (What kind of retards would actually pay to replace the original with this kind of- wait, I already know the answer to that) listened to Goku do his best Superman impersonation, then I turned it off. Man, I can see why Psaros didn't want to have to torture himself by reviewing all 70 or so episodes of that crap, especially after sitting through and REPEATEDLY WATCHING season 3, but hey, I guess he decided to take one for the good of DBZ fans everywhere. If any of you guys want to do "DBZU reviews" of the Cell saga yourselves some day, now would be a good time to tape them.

On a related note, a guy by the name Vekou has agreed to submit some reviews to the dbzoa, first of which is the edited version of Bardock that I should be putting up some time this weekend. Finally- I'm closing in on finally reviewing the episodes. (and I really mean it this time!) I'm right up to the "Kid Buu" saga, and after that I'll force myself to endure Season 6. Then DBZU 2 can really heat up...

Let it not be said that dbzoa.net doesn't have the most detailed links list to Anime Uncensored sites of any links list out there on the net. I just fixed the "Piccolo Daimao Uncensored topic" link, and added another Yu Yu Hakusho Uncensored link. (thanks, Marzak Ahmed and Umino.) Also, I added a link to "Shaman King Uncensored". Well, it's just one journal entry written today... but who knows? Maybe he'll review the rest of the episodes and maybe even expand into a site exclusively about the dubbing of Shaman King.

Speaking of which, Shaman King premiered today on the "Fox Box" at around 10:00 am, dubbed by those wonderful folks over at 4Kids. Although I slept late and missed it, what I've heard hasn't been too pretty. Apparently, as was expected, 4Kids is giving Shaman King the "Yugioh-style" treatment. (Yuuuuu-giiiii-OOOOOOOOOOOOH!) And, of course, it's unlikely that they'll make the original version available on DVD (which they easily CAN- I understand it's already been made available for sale in Japan) or even make an "Uncut" version of their shitty dub available for purchase.

What really gets me is... this is the VERY FIRST FREAKING EPISODE they screwed up! Even Pokemon, DBZ and other not-so-great anime dubs tend to try and at least be more accurate and good near the beginning. Sigh. I've seen enough badly-raped anime to spot what's being done to this one from a mile away, but then again, 4Kids is even worse than FUNimation and they don't even try to make pretenses about even caring about doing a good job dubbing. If only someone would come along and do to them what Chris Psaros and countless others did and continue to do to FUNimation...

On a lighter and more positive note, DBZU2's first birthday is tomorrow, woohoo! And if you want to get me a birthday present then here's what I'd like:

1. Fansubs of Yu Yu Hakusho 26-112. (or 26-67- hey, I'm not that picky)
2. Fansubs of Shaman King 1-64.
3. Fansubs of One Piece. (As many as you like. Man, I've just seen a few episodes and that's just such a cool show!)
or...
4. Get at least 7 different people that haven't already signed this DBZ/GT music petition to go ahead and do so.

I will gladly accept any one of the above 4. :)

They're great quality and very affordable, you'll definitely be getting your money's worth. Heck, for just 4 DVD's you could get the last FIFTY or so freaking uncut dubbed AND subbed episodes for DB! Man, FUNimation's DB DVD's really own. (C'mon, why can't the Freeza or Cell saga's for DBZ have DVD's like that too FUNi? You said you'd release the Cell saga on DVD in "2003." A release like the DB ones would probably sell really well, make you a lot of money and, most importantly, help you keep your promise to the fans.)

Also, the lovely Ms. Meredith McCoy's website (aka, #18) has been added to the dbzoa main links section. You fellows particularly should make sure to check it out. Speaking of which, has anyone seen that Indy film "Graduation Day" she's starring in? I plan on renting it soon but I am kind of curious on what it's about.

Go GreatSaiyaman777, it's your birthday. We gonna party like- oh wait, it's not Sunday just yet. Anyway, I got a new opinion up and this one is probably going to cause quite the controversy with FUNimation. (And for me say that about one of my writings in particular...) I almost thought about not putting up, but, I think the fans of this series have a right to know what really goes on behind the scenes. Besides, I don't think I'm saying anything bad about anyone who doesn't honestly deserve it. Well, my first 4 movie reviews were definitely way too harsh, but I've mellowed out a lot since then.

Speaking of movies, the DBZ movies will be showing on CN... cut or uncut? Dunno. Probably cut. Personally, I'd recommend Bardock, History of Trunks and Movie 6 if you haven't seen the original version yet. Five was just downright awful (and it looks like they're not even bothering with 4.) As for reviewing them, Umino has already reviewed the edited version of Movie 5 and expressed his interest in reviewing the televsion version of Movie 6. He didn't comment on the two tv specials but... if he hasn't decided to review them by the time I finish reviewing Seasons 6 and 7, I'll review them then. (Just consider those reviews "after desert mints" for when they do come) I'd review them now, but c'mon... one whole year here and only ONE episode review from me? I myself am getting impatient at holding off on reviewing my favorite saga (thank you everyone for being patient so far) and it's only a matter of time before I finally start cranking out episode reviews like I keep cranking out opinion pieces. In any case, next year I'm going to try to shift most of my work's focus mainly to episode reviews.

Oh, and if you haven't already done so then please sign the world's greatest DBZ petition. Ah pity the foo who doesn't.

Yikes. Well folks, it's finally here. It may not look as pretty as I'd like (more details inside), but it's here. Ski was nice enough to kick us off with a review of Berserk. Thank you, Ski.

Also, you will notice that...nothing. That's right, nothing. I did have a new Opinion to put up, but I've been screwing around with html all day and I need a break. I'll put it up later this week. Good night, everybody.

It took me most of my labor day weekend, but I did it. The longest movie of them all, DBZ Movie 8, has finally been reviewed by me. I shudder to imagine how long this would have taken me had it been as horribly mangled as Movie 7 was. (shudder) Also, I've changed the news bar a bit.

But more importantly that that, it's been almost a full year since I first signed on to do DBZU2 and my 1st anniversary will be this August 7th. Hmmm.... I wonder what I should do to celebrate...

The script for the entire GT TV Special is up in Project S. If you watched the first half of it last week and were confused, this should fill you in on what's happened. The second half begins after the second commercial break in the script. I thought this was a pretty cute story; I enjoyed watching it. Also, we have some news from the I-Channel: English-dubbed Tenchi Muyo will begin airing on Sept 12, on Fridays at 11 PM EST, repeating the following Sunday at the same time.

There are a couple of other things that I meant to include in tonight's update, but I've run out of time. I'm going away for a few days and I need to get up early. If you're waiting for your submission to appear, please be patient, it'll be added next time. Have a nice Labor Day weekend.

I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that, as I'm sure many of you noticed, the I-Channel did not air GT episode 42 yesterday. What they showed was the first part of the DBGT TV special, "Goku's Supplement! Proof of Courage is the Four-Star Dragon Ball." I didn't realize this was going to air between episodes 41 and 42 (in fact, I didn't even realize it existed), so I'm sorry about not having the correct script. If possible, I'll have the script for the whole special up by the end of the week. Oh, and the good news is that I've had it confirmed that it IS Babidi in the background in episode 42! Aw, Babidi, it's been so long since we've seen you!

...Well I'm happy anyway.

Gotta new opinion piece... man, it's got some pretty interesting info in it if I don't say so myself. Also... big news. Serious news. I have something I have been meaning to... get of my chest for a while, and I hope you'll be accepting of what I have to say and... won't hate me for what I'm about to say.

(Here goes...) It was a tough decision, but... after years of being shunned and hiding, can you guess who's finally developed enough courage to decide to just come out of the closet and live their life as an openly gay homosexual?....

That's right people, it's true. None other than... FREEZA! Monday marks dub episode 83's re-debut, Freeza's very special "coming out" episode. (coincidentally, it was also written by Neel Bligh and Terry Klassen...) And to help make him feel accepted, we here at the dbzoa have decided to throw him a coming out party! (albeit, a slightly belated one) What will it be? I dunno, I've never done one of these things before, plus I'm going on vacation next week (and have school the week after), so I'm not sure what it'll be, and it'll take a while to set up. But don't worry dubbed Freeza, it's OKAY. We are there for you and we still consider you to be a very dear friend. Unlike those "other" DBZ sites who just keep discrimating against you for being who you are, (whose names I refuse to repeat here) we here at the dbzoa are proud to support you in your time of personal crisis and change.

Man oh man... FUNimation does not want ANYONE in America to play Japanese DBZ Budokai 2 on their PS2. I can't even begin to tell you how much of a pain my "journey" to play it has been! Well, I'm almost at the end of that journey, heh heh. And who knows, maybe some of you will wind up being able to play it because of the guide? Anyway, thanks to everyone who's e-mailed me about I got a ton of new info and almost have enough to put it over in the "Features" section. Please keep em coming, I think the guide's almost just about complete!

(Realizes that I'll have to make ANOTHER guide when DBZ Budokai remastered on Gamecube comes out) Ah kuso... Well, I've read, heard and been told that getting a PAL game to play on GCN is MUCH easier than getting it to play on PS2, so hopefully writing up a guide for that should be a complete snap. In other words, if (assuming you just have English DBZ Budokai PS2 at the moment) I were you then I'd wait for the GCN one, then get the European version of it. And hey, at least I won't need to make another guide when DBZ Budokai 2 comes out on PS2 in December. As for that game, don't think DBZ Budokai 2's been dubbed yet, but chances are pretty much 99.99% that it will be. (Despite the fact that all the pre-ads that have been shown thus far, even on FUNimation's website, all had the Japanese seiyuu voicing the characters. Remember, they used the J. seiyuu in ads before last time too, but then ultimately wound up dubbing the game.)

Yo. We got 3 new opinion pieces up. One is about the voices of the villains, and does make some good and pretty funny points. Another is kind of a "why bother" editorial sounding pretty burnt out about FUNimation's behavior. (I can understand why so many people are burnt out. It's been this way since 1995, everyone who's ever tried to have hope and faith in them has almost always ultimately had it betrayed. Of course, those of us "new" to the scene aren't quite as burnt out yet.) And there's also one by me which was pretty much my reaction to the big news right now. We're not the first anime site to mention this news, but it is very important so we should mention it anyway.

What's the big news? GT'S COMING TO TOONAMI ON OCTOBER 3RD! Er... dubbed GT that it is. Step into the Grand Tour indeed. It was reported by Cartoon Network to Animation Insider and was even double-confirmed in a news bit by Kyle Hebert's site. Personally, I'm apprehensive. Even if- and I mean IF- everything else was done "Fruits Basket"-style, the dub still wouldn't be worth wasting your time on because of the music. GT's not that great of a series, but it does have it's redeeming factors. It's number one redeeming factor, of course, is it's music. But the new- er, I already talk about this in my editorial. As for which episode it'll start out, it's unknown. It'll either be A. GT episode 1 (which I'm not sure if FUNimation's actually dubbed yet), B. GT episode "16.5" (the "catch-up" episode they "created" to summarize the first 16 episodes they skipped prior to them starting on episode 17) or episode 17. Thanks go to Outcast for telling me the news.

Also, they're apparently going to be showing Bardock, History of Trunks, and DBZ movies 5 and 6 ALL in the month of September! Whether the cut or uncut versions is unknown, but if it's the cut I guess I might be pretty busy in the movies section. Also, Umino's DBZ Anime/Uncensored site has already reviewed DBZ Movie 5 and 7 plus 1 and 2, so I'm probably not going to try and review Movie 5 myself. Hmm... I wonder if he has any plans on reviewing the other 3 movies...

As for any GTU episode comparisons by me, it's not very likely. I'm still busy with DBZUncensored 2 and besides that DBZ's my favorite of the 3 series and I'm not really interested in GT. (especially the rap-happy dub of it.)

Putting up html is like cutting up a poisonous fish for consumption- one must tread carefully or bad things would happen. Unfortunately, what happened was that I lost my last update though luckily SSJLeia had most of the update saved. To sum it up-

1. dragonballz.com Movie 8 interviews now in features for future storage for all you archives/web archives "explorers." (heh heh)
2. DBZ Movie 8 is officially coming out on August 26th. However, smaller and less "corporate" stores might sell em to you a week in advance.
3. DON'T FORGET TO AVOID THE VHS OF MOVIE 8 LIKE THE SARS VIRUS AND TO ONLY BUY THE UNCUT DVD OF IT. I've heard dragonballz.com's 12 "sampler" songs, all but 1 or 2 of them suck and won't really fit anywhere in the movie... particularly since a goof half hour+ chunk of the movie is "story stuff." Just trust me, Toei's a very talented, skilled company, the soundtrack they worked hard to produce won't dissapoint you and will be much better than the garage and basement bands FUNimation (cheaply) hired straight out of Dallas. I don't have anything against rock music, but I also don't have anything against country. What that means is, stuff like rock and country shouldn't replace the original music. Etc., etc. Whew.

Now for the new update. I've got a new opinion piece up about how to get your hands on (and play) the Japanese version of DBZ Budokai. I was thinking about putting it up in features since it's more of a "feature" than an "opinion" but I'm still missing a few details to make it fully complete. Please contact me if you got any information that could help me on this topic. (particurlarly if you've ever made a playable in a non-PAL television copy via the NPSC converter program trick)

First off, some corrections were submitted to me to the last opinion piece clearing up stuff. Actually, in a way it is kind of nice to know that the DBZ movie screens are indeed 100% uncut and unaltered so I'm definitely glad to have found that out. Also, check this out. It's pretty old stuff, but it does pretty much explain where all those rumors about Toei "wanting to charge too much for the music" sprang up from. While exploring the PN web archives (around 5/10/2000) I came across this little bit...

"FYI: Bob is the licensing director DBZ games/toy figures/merchandise. According to Bob, a game is not IN development YET, but is being discussed. They will release it for one platform to see how well it sells, if it goes well they will risk other platforms. Also, FUNimation would have LOVED to use the original DBZ music - but the license holder in Japan was not willing to let them have it for what they were willing to offer. Bob said that said 'he [the license holder] was being very awkward and it wasn't working out so they had to do without it.".

Ah. So FUNimation really wants to use the original music, right? (Laughs) Well, if you've explored this site even remotely or come within a mile of Steve Harmon's interview with Gen Fukunaga then you know that that's just a load of bullshit. (Or rather, funishit) So what's the deal? For starters, when someone gives "inside information" (ala Deepthroat in the Watergate scandal) they usually try to keep themselves secret and anonymous. Obviously this Bob person got permission from FUNimation since he allowed PN to use his real name. If Bob was saying something FUNimation didn't want to, then he would have used a fake identity so as avoid getting in trouble with his employer. On the other hand... a known source willl always appear more credible to an audience than an anonymous source...

But regardless, the man was lying either way. Why would FUNimation give one of it's employees permission to lie like that, and about something that important that they knew would be posted on PN? The reason why- to generate positive propaganda in their favor and to try and discourage all fans from ever complaining about their replacing of all of DBZ's true, original music. Look at it this way- if FUNimation stated some crap like this directly (say, in their website FAQ) then they could get in deep shit. After all, I don't think Toei would be amused to see that FUNimation was lying about them and falsely blaming them for FUNimation's own bad choices and decisions. As for fans, they (rightfully) mistrust FUNimation so much that many wouldn't believe something that came directly from their mouths. (like that whole, "they won't allow uncut DBZ on the airwaves!" while meanwhile on the International Channel nothing in DBZ or GT is being censored) But by having an "underground" and highly trusted news source like PN report it to the Z community on "tha lowdown"... then FUNimation could very well convince many people that it is impossible for FUNimation to ever have the original music! I have to admit, this was VERY clever of them to do and it sure succeded in fooling a lot of people- hell, even some dbzoa'ers.

Of course, all the above might just be a theory and I could be wrong, and Bob's comments could have accidentally made it to PN from his contact. (Although 2 days passed between the contact's two scoops, and Funimation's 50+ employees did pretty much follow PN on a daily basis back in the olds days for news in any case...) Even then though, it was what convinced a lot of people that Funimation weren't the bad guys and Toei were by "acting weird-like and wanting to charge them an ungodly and unfair amount," and this Bob character was purposefully lying on FUNimation's behalf in any case.

Neither scenario is particularly flattering. This just illustrates yet again just how little integrity or thankfullness FUNimation really has. Toei spends tens of millions of dollars in production, directing, voicing, animation, advertising costs over a period of 12 years, pouring in lots of time and effort, to create the world's most popular anime- with 20 or so movies and specials and 508 episodes to boot. FUNimation gets the anime from them- makes a small fortune butchering their work while insulting it and saying that it "needs" FUNimation's "improvements" for it to even be enjoyable- and then they have the nerve to lie about Toei and insult them behind their backs and make them appear to be bad guys! Sheesh, that sure is gratitude for ya. FUNimation would rather try to deceive all fans into believing that the music's not their fault and somebody else's, so as to avoid any criticism from people who are unhappy, than to just listen to the fans and deal with their complaints at all whatsoever. It just goes to show you how unscrupulous a bunch of people they truly are, and that you should always take everything they say with a tablespoon of salt... but really, what more could one expect from FUNimation? .

As for Bob... here's a little trick for e-mailing FUNimation I also came across in the PN archives. Should one e-mail FUNimation and include "Please forward to (insert name here)" in the topic- they'll forward your e-mail for you. Want to talk about the voices? Include Barry Watson's name. Want to talk about a voice actor's performance in a project? Include their perspective name. Want to complain to Bob for lying to fans and intentionally falsely insulting Toei? Then include his name.

Apparently the last opinion piece was incorrect- the DBZ movies are shown with the picture 100% uncut. According to one person who just e-mailed me,

Vegettoex- "The DBZ movies aren't originally wide-screen. All of the DBZ movies were originally animated as full-screen, and had borders added to them for their original theatrical releases, which later came on home video (Toei of Japan never bothered to release the full-screen versions). This is also why every movie is a different aspect ratio :P. What we're getting *IS* the full picture. It's not pan-and-scan, it's the actual full-screen, original aspect-ratio picture."

Chrono1995- "I went back and watched "World's Strongest" today and noticed several shots where the characters were just a bit off-screen (most notably the scene where Goku and Ebifurya are staring each other down). At first it looked like that was the fault of the transfer to full screen, but if what VegettoEX said is true, than it was intentional. So what did they do? Crop and mat the image and just lay black bars on the top and bottom of the screen ala the Director's Cut of the Rurouni Kennshin OVA."

Vegettoex- "That's exactly what they did... lay black bars over the top and bottom. And it's different people each movie that don't pay attention to the last folks, because every movie's a different "aspect ratio." Heck, DBZ movie 8 was nearly full-screen IN its "widescreen" release."

So, never fear- the picture quality of the DBZ movies are indeed 100% uncut. Sorry for the confusion there and, of course, thanks to N and you-know-who. But I'm not going to complain about it, I myself have made some mistakes in the past too, and life goes on. *Shrugs.* Like when I thought "kuso" should always be translated as "shit" and complained about that in my movie reviews. But when I found out I went back and corrected all my movie reviews (man, did that take a long time) and explained myself in my Movie 6 review, and it was a done deal. So hopefully this should settle things and, hey, nobody's perfect.

Oh, and I've got some "new" news on the Seasons 1 and 2 redub. Most of it's been reported before but, and this bit is kind of old, but according to the site animenation(http://www.otakurevu.com/news66.htm)...

"The distribution rights to the first 17 Dragonball Z TV series DVDs revert from Pioneer back to FUNimation in mid 2003. FUNimation is considering the possibility of of releasing these early episodes uncut, with new dubbed audio tracks to maintain consistency with the current releases."

Hmmm... interesting. This directly conflicts Gen's earlier and extremely ambiguous (ie, "oops! I was refering to the Japanese on DVD version! Silly me-san!") statement that, "....On top of the fact that all the redone Dragon Ball videos will be uncensored, there will be 15 new ones, they will all be uncut, and will have the Japanese soundtracks."

Of course, if Gen wanted to include the original soundtrack for the redub then why would he have authorized to be done what's being done to DBZ Movie 8's music? Also, another person for FUNimation has commented that they personally think that they probably shouldn't use the original soundtrack... because they think that it'd be better if the music of the first 2 seasons was "consistent" with the rest of the seasons which were done by Bruce Faulconer. (speaking of which, Faulconer is still squabbling with FUNimation for them not rehiring him to work on GT and the rest of the movies. Twill be interesting to see if, despite their difficulties, FUNimation will rehire him again...) My personal conclusion on things? FUNimation intends to rape DBZ in the ass as much as humanly possible up until the very bitter end. Having researched their company way more than sane person should, I know what their thoughts pretty much are on this matter. As Gen would probably comment if someone asked him,

"Our highly professional (and expensive) test-marketing research for children's cartoons shows that the original soundtrack is greatly detested and would be impossible for them to ever get used to. In other words, it is a bunch of lame-ass, goofy, silly, horribly outdated, disgusting-sounding, cheesy, old, 80'sish Jap crap that has no place before the eyes and ears of the mass American viewing audience whom we are trying to attract- and are very successful at attracting, mind you. I mean, that music is... simply ridiculous to the American viewing audience! If we wanted to put in that godawful original music then why don't we just sell all of our VHS tapes and DVD's in bags of shit while we're at it? Yeah, as if fans could EVER like DBZ with it's, hahaha, original music! HAH! Now, ahem, on the other hand... if we REPLACE the Jap crap music with our own new, edgy, Americanized, hip soundtrack- we will make MORE money. Tell me, would you rather have your company make MORE money... or LESS money? Unless you're an idiotic fool, I believe I know your answer. Besides, the only thing Jap DBZ has going for it is all of those cool, pretty pictures, particularly of people fighting. The rest, of course, is what we so excellently supply to turn it into something watcheable. Oh, and I refuse to ever change my opinions on matters because I'm an extremely arrogant, self-centered prick, and because I've made so much money doing things this way I'm terrified like a little bitch that I'd make less instead of more if I ever did anything different."

Besides that, remember all those interviews on dragonballz.com about Movie 8 where those FUNimation people all happily and very openly completely dissed and insulted absolutely everything about the original soundtrack while bragging about how "superior" their "live action band feel" would be? Sigh. Yes, it is -still- very remotely and distantly somewhat possible that the redub could actually include the original music, but it's extremely unlikely and I doubt that the likes of FUNi will ever change their ways. Movie 9 will pretty much be their final chance to prove that they have positive intentions for the redub, and I'm not expecting a whole lot there from them either. Even though it's got the best soundtrack of all 13 DBZ movies, and it's soundtrack is about as integral to this movie as "Spirit vs. Spirit" is to DBZ, that means nothing to FUNi and I imagine that they're probably already coming up with plans on what to replace it with, kind of like how they had plans to change GT's score a year prior to even releasing their rap theme song for it... bleh. FUNimation, you suck.

First off we have a new opinion piece. It's about how the movies are "compressed" to full-screen format and it's a pretty interesting read. Heh, sure wouldn't mind some DBZ movie screen shots of how much screens gets cut to make them fullscreen. (if anybody happens to have access to some.)

Now then, as you may know the big news right now is the fact that CN is now re-running the Freeza saga (starting from episode 58) and going up the end, where GT will probably commence shortly after. At this rate (assuming that they show one new DBZ episode each day, 5 days a week without stopping)...

The Garlic Jr. Saga will begin 9/22/2003. (episode 93/108)
The Cell Saga will begin 10/06/03. (episode 118)
The Majin Buu saga will begin 1/21/2004. (episode 195)
Season 6 of the MB saga will begin 3/22/04 (episode 238)
Season 7 of the MB saga will begin 5/14/04. (episode 277)
The final DBZ will re-air on 6/04/04. (episode 291)

That is, assuming that it's 5 a week nonstop without any interruptions. After that they'll be hyping the hell out of FUNI-dubbed, raphappy GT like it's the coolest, most mondo action-packed thing ever (heh) and it'll probably premier sometime in August. Dayum, that is a LOT of episodes huh? People seem pretty excited at the news- I am too. I'll now be able to tape all of these episodes to have at a later point (particularly, the Garlic Jr. saga and Season 5). Dunno if I'll ever review the Cell saga, but who knows? If you're interested in doing your own comparisons, you may want to tape those episodes yourself. Also, if you're watching these episodes don't forget to check Chris Psaros's reviews of each of them on a daily basis (they go up to just before the Garlic Jr. saga). And don't forget to check out this nifty site for pictures of a lot of what FUNi and CN censor out.

Anyway, so what's in store for the future here? Well... I've been working on the site for almost a year and- I need a break! Really, I need some me-time and some RnR so I don't go crazy. After all, you want me refreshed and good and ready when I do my episode reviews right? But don't worry, I'll be back around 10/07 and I WILL guarantee you 100% that when Seasons 6 and 7 roll around my episode comparisons for them will be complete and you will definitely be able to check them to compare them to the episodes you watch. My 2nd year at DBZUncensored 2 will be "the year of the episode comparisons" as opposed to the "the year of everything else" like what it’s been so far, but I'll be getting more into that later in a special editorial. I'm not totally on break right now, I will be doing 2 more editorials, maybe some corrections, and reviews of DB Movie 4 and DBZ Movie 8 in the meantime. I may even have Movie 8 reviewed prior to it's official release (I can usually get FUNi's DVD's a week before their release date due to some, ahem, good friends of mine) which is what I'm aiming for.

Finally, there's been a lot of speculation at why FUNimation and CN are starting at episode 58 as opposed to numero uno. I'm sure the two have a variety of absolutely wonderful reasons to offer but it all comes down to this- 1. FUNi and CN are pretty much in bed with one another and are involved in a "mutually beneficial relationship" in which each side tries to keep the other side happy. (don't forget, DBZ is CN's number one money-making show and essentially "anchoring" the popularity or the rest of their programs) 2. Pioneer has the rights to the first 2 seasons.

That's right, Pioneer owns the rights lock, stock and barrel and will be holding on to them until 8/31/03 (as Vegex reported). What that means is- if those episodes are shown on tv do you know who CN would be handing cash over to? Do you know would be "getting paid royalties for every second” their dubbed score is heard? Not FUNimation, Pioneer! How'd they get the rights? Well apparently FUNi was very low and desperate for dough back in the pre-CN days and Pioneer arranged for some sort of deal with them. I heard that Pioneer wanted to take over all of the rights to DBZ in America but unfortunately... they failed, and instead of more quality stuff like Pioneer's first 3 DBZ movies, (yes, they were essentially done solely by Pioneer, NOT FUNimation. After all, why do you think Gen and Cindy are mentioned last in the credits?) we're still stuck with ol’ FUNi.

After the last episode show they’ll probably rerun the first 57 episodes, which at the time will cause all “profits and royalties” to go straight into FUNi’s coffers… of course, there are other possible reasons why they’re doing this too. I’m not surprised that FUNi’s doing this since I know for a fact that FUNi’s main exec’s absolutely despise everything about Ocean for producing a foreign dub in England and Canada and denying them much of those markets. (interestingly enough, "Ocean fans" generally prefer the original version over the FUNi version moreso than the typical FUNi fan.) As such, I imagine that their exec’s probably hate Pioneer and are doing this as a way of getting “the last laugh” on Pioneer. Ah well. Oh- and if you want the Ocean dubbed-episodes (even though FUNi will eventually redub them) and first 3 movies (there’s only one thing FUNimation will probably change in their “version” of them that I just mentioned..) but don’t have them, go ahead and buy them. If you wait too long then your money will go to a company that doesn't deserve it (FUNi) as opposed to one that does (Pioneer). Besides, Pioneer’s boxed set prices completely own FUNimation’s any day of the week. :P

The script for tonight's GT episode, 35, is up in Project S. If you're expecting a really dramatic SSJ4 transformation...eh, you'll be disappointed. But it's still a great episode, don't miss it. The translation in this sub was really bad; I had to revise it a bit in some places, so please bear with me if it's not perfectly accurate. Also, there's a new section in Project S for movies and specials. The script for Movie 1 is there. I love Garlic Jr...he's almost as cute as Babidi. ^_^

Wow, my last editorial definitely caused quite a stir. 3-4 people e-mailed me shortly after to tell me that they'd just been converted to the Japanese version! Heh, guess my work here is finally starting to pay off. Speaking of which, I've got another editorial. It's in response to a very popular defense for FUNimation (both by fans and FUNimation themselves) and it also talks about the "secret" history behind how FUNimation really got started up.

Also, some interesting news. Years ago I was a big fan of Sailor Moon for about 1 or 2 seasons... then I stopped watching it. However, according to the website "Sailor Moon Uncensored" (http://www.smuncensored.com/) the J. version is completely superior- original, better music, no censorship, no episode skipping/cutting, no Americanization, etc., better dialogue. And, coming from essentially the exact same position as them, I have a pretty strong feeling that they're probably right. Well guess what? A new bilingual DVD boxed of the first season (46 episodes!) will be selling on July 15th! I haven't seen any of that series in forever, and the original verison completely owns the dub? I'm definitely going to be picking up the boxed set, it sounds like it should make a great buy. Thanks again to Umino for telling me this news and thanks again to Arjun Chauhan for having told me about the interviews over at dbzsc.com.

Now for a new special feature... Planet Namek used to do news updates where they'd have people go to anime/comic conventions, talk to FUNi people, then report the news to them. Well I'd like to start meeting these people in person myself and also have dbzoa.net do similar updates. So, me and mod/admin "The Saiyajin Reborn" have created a special board (http://dbzoa.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=38) where you can find news on when and where they'll be showing up. So if you're bored, and you live near one of these places, or would like help out with the site- feel free to go to one of these conventions and speak to them in person. And when you're done, e-mail me and tell me what it was like and what they said in response to you. Or better yet, e-mail me in advance and let me give you questions to ask on my behalf, then e-mail me their responses and how things turned out. Well, either way is fine with me.

We've got a new opinion piece up. And man, you're not going to believe what it's about- an account by one of the very small handful of people in America to ever meet and actually have the honor of speaking to Mr. Akira Toriyama! Tis quite interesting, I'm kind of surprised I didn't put it in features since that's really where something this good belongs. (Shrugs.) Oh well, I'm sure the other opinion pieces will be quite honored to share space with this one. Also, don't forget to check out Umino's DBZ site. Some good stuff, and quite a bit planned for the future.

More news. First off, Goku doesn't actually go SSJ4 in episode 34- he does it in 35. 34 is just him as a giant ape smashing stuff like crazy... still a pretty cool episode. Heh, darn mislabeled fansubs.

Also, some news on when the dub of GT will be hitting airwaves. Gen's apparently done an interview at icv2.com (http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/1808.html) and it looks like FUNimation and CN want to rerun ALL 276 episodes and then at some point in 2004 start showing GT. (Note- don't e-mail me that "Gen just said the redub would include the original music for the dub, yay!" That comment of his, if it was really him, was intentionally ambiguous and misleading. He could just respond, "Oh, I meant the Japanese soundtracks for the Japanese version. You mustn't have understood what I meant!" Besides, he's lied to everybody about the music before and if he was serious about putting a stop to his raping of DBZ then he wouldn't have helped screw over Movie 8's music like he just did. Truthfully, I'm expecting the redub to have yet another "new and improved score," probably by the rap-happy Mr. Menza.) Makes sense- let newschool fans catch up, collect more fans and make the oldschool fans happy. And who knows, they may even finally show some DBZ movies on tv again aside from Pioneer's first 3. Plus, as long as the DBZ craze in America is still strong they'll be continuing to make more games, toys and merchandise to sell.

Finally, so where am I going to go in the future with DBZU2? Well, now that Movie 8's music is guaranteed to be garbage I've pretty much lost interest in focusing on the movies so much. I mean, how much can one person really say about all of the DBZ movies? I'd like to review DB Movie 4 at some point (excellent dub btw) and then I should be able to get through DBZ Movie 8 which will be coming out in 2 months. But sometime in the future, whether before or after these events... I'll finally be reviewing the Majin Buu saga, woohoo! Man, I've been wanting to review it forever. But first I need to catch up on the saga by watching the Japanese episodes all over again (which should be lots of fun. Man, I haven't seen that cool saga in forever) and... rewatching all of the dub. Ugh. Well, nobody said this job would be easy. :P

Lots of news. First off, if you haven't already bought LOG2, go ahead and buy it. Yeah, the Season 4 lines get annoying but luckily they constitute only a vast minority of the game. It'll be a long time before I write a review on the game but just trust me, you'll like it.

Also, do you know what happens on American television next week? GOKU GOES SSJ 4! That's right kiddies, FUNimation's sole advertising hook for the GT series (omg, OMG! SSJ4! Even cooler than SSJ3! Omg, omg, OMG!) will finally be unveiled. Screw waiting several months to give FUNi $20, print yourself a Project: Shinonome episode 34 script, grab a blank VHS and enjoy one damn good episode. Don't worry, I've seen GT and I can tell you that you don't need to worry about "catching up" or "spoiling too much." Actually, episode 34 would be a pretty good place to start, especially if what you're expecting from the series is mainly action. This is the one International Channel DBGT episode you do NOT want to miss. Major props to SSJ Leia for doing such a great job with that section.

Also, I've got another opinion piece which deals with the music- specifically FUNimation's main excuse for replacing it. Pretty popular topic to talk about right now... and I still have a little bit more to say about it.

Finally, help, help, I need help! My brother's a computer whiz and he can hook me up with a playable copy of the DBZ Budokai game. (note- I already paid for and imported the game) However, what he needs is a Pal - NPSC converter (converts from Pal to NPSC) for the PS2. Several actually, he tried one but it didn't work so he'd like several others to try. Once he's got several of those to test out he should be able to hook me up with a playable DBZ J-English Budokai. And even though he's not a big DBZ fan, I might be able to talk him into doing an editorial that explains at length how other fans can do this. That's right, YOU TOO could be able to enjoy DBZ Budokai 2 without having to listen to "Barney" Josh Majin Buu! (Yes, the guy who does Majin Buu really is the voice of Barney. I guess that'd explain why he sounds so squeaky...) So if you know of any of these types of converters and where I can find them, please let me know.

You know, maybe Movie 8 won't be as horrible as I thought. I got a new opinion piece up which talks about that. Also, if you do decide to e-mail FUNi please remember to be polite and civilized. Believe me, I do enough "Funi-bashing" for the both of us and they really will be more likely to listen to you and take you seriously if you argue and debate with them in a non-insulting manner. Nothing wrong with having complaints but let's try not to get too carried away.

Also, I recently picked up a copy of "Legacy of Goku II". I was a bit apprehensive at first since I heard there's some Faulconer music in there, but surprisingly it's pretty good music. It's mostly original music, but the Faulconer themes that are in there are remixed and greatly improved upon.

However- there is one very big problem with this game- the script. If you know anything about Season 4, you know that it sucked some serious balls. Hell, they didn't even translate that whole season correctly, they actually used "Engrish" Toei scripts for the whole lot of it! Unfortunately, although Atari has improved a lot since the last game, those guys obviously did their homework and studied over theEnglish FUNi dub of Season 4 very carefully for this game. I don't blame them for not knowing better than to follow the dubbed version so accurately, it's FUNi's fault and not theirs but it REALLY can get VERY annoying. Old favorites like Goku's, "Wow, GOLLY! I bet it's grape flavored too!" and Trunks's, "So you must be Freeza (instead of what he originally said, 'I'm here to kill you')" are abound everywhere. Ugh- so FUNimation's found a way to even mess up the games. I can't even imagine Goku here speaking as Masako Nozawa when he talks- the lines are just way too goofy. Guess that means it'll just be me and Superhero Schemmel beating up on Cell... yay.

As for Budokai, it turned out good because the French dub was so accurate and well done- and because those Toei execs were looking over FUNi's shoulders and taking notes during their dubbing of that game. Legendary Super Warriors (btw, a fantastic DBZ game that any hardcore fans would especially like- I myself love that game) was made almost exclusively by Japanese programmers and pretty much follows the manga to a T. Anyway, I'll be sure to write up a review on "LOG2" and let you know what I think about it once I've gone through the game. If you're still undecided about buying it, in the meantime buy "LSW" for Gameboy Advance/Color or get Kingdom Hearts (non-DBZ game, but probably the best new game currently out there) for PS2.

Oh yeah, I also just got an English-translated version of Japanese DBZ Budokai imported from the UK. Unfortunately, European tv's and PS2's are intentionally designed to be incompatible with American ones to discourage importing. Luckily my brother's skilled at computer stuff so hopefully I should be able to play a "modified" version of J-English DBZ Budokai on my PS2 at some point. Maybe I'll compare it the dubbed version of Budokai and do a review on that game as well at some point...

Where: Very Bad News for Movie 8
By: GreatSaiyaman777

Check out this link. Yup, you got it- those garage and basements bands Funi (yes, Funi) decided to go with will be thoroughly raping Movie 8's music since Funi wants to give them all "exposure." I gotta say, I'm extremely dissapointed. Not "extremely dissapointed" extremely dissapointed but "somebody should grab a shotgun and take a little road trip to Ft. Worth and go on a rampage" extremely dissapointed. The next dozen or so Lupin III movies from FUNi won't be raping any of the original music- so why do DBZ's have to? Why does DBZ always have to be given the "special treatment" from Funi?

On the other hand, I'm not too surprised. After finding out and making their plans known it was probably even more unlikely for them to change them. I mean, for them to change midway through would be for them to openly admit that they were wrong and would be a "blow to their pride." Of course, Funi has some very unusual, ass-backwards notions of "pride." Besides, does Funi ever get anything for DBZ right? In any case I got plenty more to say and I'll need an editorial or two's length to say it. And I will later this week when I have enough time. In the meantime, I have one thing I'd like to point out....

As for our "good buddy" Evan Jones, who sounded more excited than anyone about hiring all those garage and basement bands...

"LIKE MANY OF THE PEOPLE OF FUNIMATION, Evan O'Connor Jones ('95) had a completely different career in mind before joining the company. He wanted to be a ballet dancer.
Jones now mixes the audio for the Dragon Ball series."

...Naw, too easy. WAY too easy. Anyway, feel fee to e-mail that jerk and tell him what you think about his hatred and disgust towards the original soundtrack at "Evan.Jones@Funimation.com". And don't forget to drop Funi a line.

Well, that's it for now. Thanks to KaidoYuji8Adam for finding this link and thank God for the DVD version, that's all I have to say.

Egads- another update? I'm on an update sprenzy! Anyway, this one won't apply to most of you- just those of you "in the know." I probably wouldn't be doing another update so soon, but it is kind of necessary for these guys. For you guys the "June 8th/5 Blades" thing has been cancelled and replaced with something different. If you've been following recent news then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

Now for some other news- any of you guys been by Kyle Hebert's site recently? That guy's managed to talk a lot of different VA's from different animes into being interviewed recently. (though no FUNimation VA's) You should check up there in case someone from one of your favorite animes is being interviewed. Also- please DON'T take this as a "cue" to go to his message boards and to try and drum up support for Movie 8's music there. He seems to follow recent anime news pretty well and any music replacement would -not- be his decision to begin with. He may even already think it might be the worst idea ever and I'm pretty sure this matter has already caught his attention. Actually, from what I've heard, it's caught pretty much everybody at FUNimation's attention!

And since I now have all of your eyes and ears FUNimation, I have something else I'd like to say to you. I understand that you've already dubbed most of GT. Frankly, I was very dissapointed with your first DVD and haven't been following what you guys have been doing to that series since. But I do KNOW that Christopher Neel, one of the 2 men responsible for turning Freeza (perhaps DBZ's best villain... at least in the original version) into a "womanly," sashaying, homosexual alien who inferred (you even "convinced" many dub fans that he "wears" lipstick and "paints" his nails! Even me at one point!) that he thought that Goku was a total hottie he'd love to hook up with him, has ALSO been writing the SCRIPT to the dub of GT?

GOOD GUARDIAN OF THE EARTH! You guys kept him away from Movie 6- and it turned out great. You guys apparently have kept him away from Movie 8- and the script of that will probably also be great. Movie 4, 5 and 7 sucked tons of ass mainly because of him. Most of your script writers aren't exactly Pulitzer-quality to begin with- but he is without any doubt your single WORST script writer! In fact, I KNOW that that man lives in Canada and has never even BEEN to your studio and he does virtually no coordination with you guys at all! Most pathetic of all, most of you don't even KNOW who this man is! Freeza and Goku hit on one another- and you don't even bother to complain to the idiot script writers for doing this! I also strongly suspect that he's your man you have "beef up the comedy" and send scripts 1,000's of miles to, once every other script writer has "done their thing." Hell, in some DBZ scripts you guys had SEVEN different writers "do their thing." "Goku's bringing down da law!" and other make-believe crap to make everything in GT look 100X more badass than it really is with "hip dialogue" for CN's coveted 2-11 year old crowd is really just sad and pathetic.

Please- fire that man's ass if you haven't already. You know that Movie 8's script is probably fine, and you know that it wouldn't have been that way had Neel "assisted" with it. And to fellow GT script writers Jerry "GT... is the most wonderful, intelligent, sophisticated anime of all time and I shall IMPROVE IT!" Carlile and Eric "FUNimation pretty boy" Vale, follow Blue Water's excellent script examples of staying true to the story- something they've gotten high marks for from both fans and critics watching the show. Their new voice cast may be inexperienced and suck, but at least they're smart enough not to flush 100,000's-1,000,000's of dollars down the crapper to replace all the music and hire 12 different writers in an attempt to "improve" things. You did a good job with DB Movie 4's script Jerry, so there's no excuse not to do the same with GT's.

Lastly, some news from the FUNimation boards- good news. When I first asked you to go over there the moderators there got really pissed. However, attempts over there to stop people have essentially backfired, so- as a concession they've announced that they'll allow just one topic about the music there to remain. Woohoo, a topic that's guaranteed NOT to be censored, deleted or locked down! You can find the topic here.
Feel free to go over there and give them your two cents!

Wow, I've really been ruffling a lot of feathers with FUNimation lately, to say the least. Contrary to what a lot of you may think, I'd just like to state that I DON'T hate all of you and think you're just a bunch of bedumbed, untalented buffoons at what you're doing. Actually I think many of you are very talented and very good at what you do and you do care a lot. Unfortunately, I focus mainly on DBZ here, thus- most of what I say is usually criticism. As for my being rude by giving out your number and encouraging people to call... I think what's being planned for movie 8 is much, much, much more rude than what I did.

Speaking of the music issue, I have a new opinion piece up. Please... just listen to the fans FUNimation. If you'd just stop misdubbing DBZ that'd end a great amount of criticism to your company. We could then safely and confidently look forward to a perfect redub of Seasons 1 and 2. There's one thing you guys have been looking for from the fans and haven't been able to wholly get over the years- respect. Most of your other animes may be getting respect, but your biggest, most important, most talked about and most watched one isn't. Yeah, you've got all the money in the world, but at the end of the day wouldn't it be nice to be able to look at the feedback and explore DB message boards and hear people talk about how wonderful and great you guys are? And wouldn't it especially be worth doing that if you'd also make MORE money as well? Sounds to me like that'd be the best and smartest thing you could possibly do. The rest of Movie 8 sounds just fine- all that's left is the music. If you can just leave the music alone, you'll be able to finally get some respect. If not... then you guys can look forward to even less respect than what you already don't have. It's your call and I hope you'll make the right decision.

Ya know I think I may have misled some of you. One update I hint at an upcoming interview, the next update I talk about how I spoke to Mark Menza. The conclusion- I interviewed Mark Menza. Actually I didn't. It was -kind of- spontaneous I called him anyway. (And man, am I GLAD I did.) The interview is with someone else. Not someone who works for FUNimation but someone far more important- a Toei animator, a person whose work includes many an anime you've probably seen... including a significant piece of the Dragon Ball anime legacy. But words alone just can't do this justice, just be sure to check it out.

Oh, and more thing I'd like to bring to your attention. Someone has created a topic at FUNimation's message boards which you can find here
asking that people who want the original music post in it. If you can't reach it from there then go to to dragonballz.com and then reach the DBZ-Movies board from there. Perhaps it may not be a whole lot at the moment, not even a formal petition on a big offical site... but it's something and it's a start, and it's certainly better than doing nothing. Please sign it. Once you've looked at this interview I think you'll be very much inclined to do so. You'd have to be heartless not to.

(June 5th note- Actually, as Casper/Ultraturbo and Kam Islash just informed me, that topic I just mentioned was locked down by FUNimation shortly after it got created. So- I guess free speech is alright to FUNimation just as long as none of it happens to be criticism against them or the way they treat their animes. Oh well I'm not too worried, more amused actually. It's kind of like Agent Smith in the Matrix Reloaded- for every topic and post FUNimation censors/deletes/locks down, two more keep taking their place.)

Where: Big News Update
By: GreatSaiyaman777

First off, my apologies for bumping Illj's fanfic info down so soon (sorry man!) but this news is WAY too big for me to afford to wait any longer. Now then, first bit- Christopher Neel is NOT one of the script writers! YES! In addition, from other details I've heard, I think I can say with 98% certainty that... the story of Movie 8 will remain pure in the dub and may turn out even better than Movie 6's did. Hell, I HONESTLY wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be much, much better than one of Pioneer's scripts for the first 3 movies!

Now for some other news- do you know who's doing the music for GT? I can tell you, from what I have found out from an extremely reliable source (Mark Menza, no less), that chances are EXTREMELY likely that it WON'T BE Mark Menza! After all the complaints GT's music has gotten (especially the rap song "Step into tha Grand Tour" that the GT dub's credits credit him for- a song so monumentally horrible that Chris Sabat was more than happy to publicly bash it and announce that the people at FUNimation all hate it) it looks like he's not going to do the music for Movie 8! That's great news huh? That means we'll finally get a DBZ movie with the original music.... doesn't it?

Ehh, wrong! FUNimation has plans to hire some other "local talent" in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area to do the music! Well, you know what? That's just pure bullshit. That movie's music is perfect and doesn't need replacing, especially after what they did to Movie 7's and GT's soundtracks. Do we really want FUNimation to screw up another DBZ movie? HELL NO! So what can we fans do about this?

Last time after how Movie 6 turned out I made the mistake of trusting FUNimation to do a good job with Movie 7- and look what happened! It was their worst dub ever! Even if they do manage to get everything else right in this movie, so what? If the music is as terrible and soulless as Movie 7's it could just turn out to all be a pretty much wasted effort on their part- and that wouldn't be very good at all. But there's still some time left- FUNimation still doesn't seem to have hired any "local talent" yet. So what can we do?

I'll tell you EXACTLY what we can do! First off, go to FUNimation's message boards
and sign up there and spread the news and tell them that what you want is the original music! Each of you make at least one post there! For any hardcore "real music band" fans who say stuff like, "I tink Korn or Metallica would totally rock in DBZ 8 cause of all dose fight senez an wood go wit da musik!"- they ain't using any "famous" bands this time around, so those people can either look forward to 1. the original Japanese score- or 2. local Dallas-Ft.Worth talent. Haha, sorry guys!

Now that that should settle any potential "music arguments" with certain members there (to be fair, not all of them are like that though) if you do post at their board, what can you do next? E-mail FUNimation
and tell them there that what you want in Movie 8 is the original music! Then what? Simple- CALL FUNIMATION on your telephone and tell them that YOU- want Movie 8's original music. Remember to decide what you'd like to say ahead of time and to call between 9am-5pm Texas time to increase the odds of you speaking to one of them on the phone.

Don't forget that you might want to make a new e-mail address to e-mail if you've e-mailed them before, in case they may have blocked you. Finally, let others know what's going on and get them to help us as well. Any friends you've got who like DBZ... friends on DBZ/anime message boards you hang out... people you e-mail, instant message- anyone who could help out! And if one of you out there has a DBZ/anime news site, for the love of the Guardian of the Earth- please post this news! I know there are a lot of people out there who really like the DBZOA... and some who are neutral about it... and some who hate us. Regardless of which category any of you reading this may fall in for whatever reasons, if you're a true fan of DBZ then I think you'll agree with what we're trying to do and will want to help us and be a part of it. Just put aside your differences for now and try to help us with a goal that's worth fighting for.

To be honest, one of the reasons I started up Dragon Ball Z Uncensored 2 was to bring attention on the misdubbbing of the movies in the hopes that my favorite, Movie 8, would be dubbed correctly. That's the main reason I've done so few episode reviews yet and most of my stuff so far somehow relates to the treatment of the movies.

Anyway, even if our efforts may not succeed we can't just give up yet. Because if we do has then that means that we've already lost without even bothering to put up a fight. Well let's show them, spread the word and let our voices be heard and let FUNimation know that we fans don't want them raping anymore of DBZ's music!

By: Illjwamh

Okay, here goes. I know this was over a while ago, but it's been taking a long time to finsih for three reasons: 1.) I'm a lazy punk. 2.) I've had a lot to do regarding school and work lately, and I haven't been able to find the time to devote the amount of attention I feel this deserves, not to mention I've been having some trouble of my own of late (if you go to the forums you know what this is about), and 3.) The prizes were supposed to come from the store, which hasn't been selling too great, and I was trying to hold off for a while to see if we could get some moolah to hand out some rewards. Ain't happening. So what I've decided to do is this: we'll forget the prizes for now, and I'll just review the fics as I normally would. Today is my last class, so that won't be in the way anymore. I entered a fic contest once that took over a year to judge, and I know how you all must feel about now. If I don't have them up by the end of the month (that'd be Jun. 30th), then you may all yell at me. In the future, if the store makes some money, perhaps we can send a prize to whoever got the best review. Thanks for waitin' so patiently, everyone. ^_^

Sorry I haven't had too many updates recently but I'm busy on a very, very big project right now that I'm still working on. It's an interview. Who am I interviewing? Heh, I'll let that be a surprise. In the meantime I have a new editorial up. It deals with the previews issue of the first Dragon Ball series. Actually, I don't think it's that big a deal since this series is actually being shown some R-E-S-P-E-C-T by FUNimation but it's a topic that I still think deserves to be brought up.

Speaking of respect, guess who directed Movie 8? Mike McFarland! He did a pretty good and respectable job with DB Movie 4 (which, mind you, had the original music in it) so hopefully he's done a good job with Movie 8. Just as long as Christopher Neel and Mark Menza have kept their distance from this project then I think it'll actually turn out to be a good dub, but we'll see how things turn come August.

Got some updates and some news for ya. First off I got a new opinion piece up about something I've been meaning to get off my chest for awhile. Secondly I've updated the links section with links to Chris Sabat's and Eric Vale's sites. Whew, the FUNimation people sure have got a lot of sites huh? I guess the people at FUNimation must be pretty connected to the internet but that does make sense since the "Z Community" is primarily web-based.

Now for some GT news. Guess who just came out and said that they HATE the new rap theme song? None other than Christopher R. Sabat in an interview courtesy of DBZ Saiyan Chronicles (www.dbzsc.com)! He said, and I quote, "The DragonBall GT Theme Song sucks! Yeah. I know what ya mean! :-P It's old and we all at FUNimation think it suck as well... that Bruce Faulconer wanted it and he wont change it! ...we didn't know how much it was going to suck till he showed it to us and since we were already nearly finished with GT it was the only thing we could do so, so far we're keeping it."

You know, I almost was about to have respect for the guy but then he just HAD to "pass the buck" and shift blame away from FUNimation by lying and falsely blaming Bruce Faulconer for the rap music. Actually Faulconer has nothing to do with GT at all and he stopped working for FUNimation somewhere between Z movies 5 and 6. Just look at the credits of any rap-mania GT dubbed episode- the only person credited for the music is Mark Menza. Several people (myself included) have even e-mailed Faulconer about Sabat's claim and he's flat-out denied it to them. In fact, Faulconer's even still trying to get people to e-mail FUNi's 3 exec's to get his job back.

Hmph, shame on you Chris, that was just pathetic man. Truth be told the real culprits are basically a group of 6 people- Gen Fukunaga and Cindy Fukunaga. Daniel Cocanougher and his father and brother Allen and Robert Cocanougher. And last of all, their chief employee Barry Watson and FUNi's redundantly overpaid marketing team who are "down with what the kiddies all like" who suggested this crap to them. But hopefully these 6 are among the "everybody" at FUNimation who thinks that it sucks. Still, I doubt it. Sabat's knowingly dishonest remark that "that Bruce Faulconer wanted it and he wont change it!" suggests that FUNimation doesn't really want to change the music. Speaking of which, if any of guys would like to see talk to Chris and see what he has to say about this whole situation then feel free to e-mail him.

Now for some good news- I am very close to doing some more DBZ episode reviews! All I have left that I'd like to do beforehand are 2 or 3 more additions and several corrections. With luck I should be re-started on the episodes at some point within the next 2 weeks.

I'm back. Didja miss me? Anyway, I have a new opinion piece which explains why I decided to start up DBZUncensored 2. Speaking of that... I just uploaded eight new articles into our news articles section. EIGHT NEW ARTICLES. And these ain't your normal news articles either. For instance,

"Even the dragon has gone through some scrutiny in preparation for American viewers. In the Japanese original, he's a dragon god. 'We talked to several priests and ministers, and most didn't have a problem with that, but they said some people might,' Cocanougher said. 'So we changed it to Eternal Dragon.'"

FINALLY! Something to end this whole Eternal Dragon/Shenron debate once and for all! So remember, the next time someone calls the dragon "the Eternal Dragon" or acts like his name is "Shenron" like a guy's name might be Bob, show this article to them. And just in case you're wondering, they're STILL calling him the Eternal Dragon in the dub, even 8 years later in GT. (Actually, he's now "Eternal Dragon/Shenron", ala "Mr. Hercule Satan".) This just goes to show that you can't really trust anything the dub ever says, even if it's in the so-called "uncut" version.

Ouch. That last update was pretty harsh on Faulconer wasn't it? To tell you the truth, he's not the person who should really be blamed for DBZ's bad dub music- it's FUNimation's fault. FUNimation are the ones who ordered him to eliminate all moments of silence. FUNimation are the ones who hired him to begin with because they did not want the original score in there. FUNimation are the ones who have never once provided him with Japanese tapes to watch or bothered to ask him to watch the Japanese version. And FUNimation are the ones who, despite all the complaints about Faulconer's music they were given, never once complained to Faulconer about his score and recommended anything except "more techno". If not for FUNimation's idiocy and lack of care then Faulconer's score would easily be much better. Yes, the bad dub music is partly his fault but it's mostly FUNimation's. They gave him no advice whatsoever and they gave him the worst possible instructions. Besides, he actually has seen more than 1% of the series, though I'm by no means saying he's blameless in the matter.

To tell you the truth, I mainly made that update because I was really mad at Faulconer for that GT thing he did and I always will be every time I hear "Step into the Grand Tour". But is Faulconer really the best man for the music job? Sorry Mr. Faulconer, though I imagine you'd do a lot better on the movie then FUNimation has ordered you to do on the show. However, Toei are still the ones who are best-suited for the job on the movie and I think they're still definitely the ones who should do it.

So if you decide to e-mail Fox about getting Toei to do the music, don't blame Faulconer for DBZ's bad music- as usual, FUNimation are once again the culprits. And even if you're neutral about the music you should still e-mail and let them know what you think about the differences between the two versions. After all, if they don't know any better then those guys are going listen to FUNimation and only watch the heavily mistranslated English version and then base the live-action movie off it.

I know I said I was taking a brief break but I have some important news to tell you about. You know who Bruce Faulconer is don't you? The guy who composed "new" music for most of DBZ with his casio keyboard and synthesizer that sucked in comparison to the original music. Yes, he does have some good tunes, some of which, yes, are better than those in the Japanese version. However, he doesn't know the value of silence and for the most part- his stuff just sucks. (example- "We were Angels" vs. his 23 second, visually chopped-up, emotionless guitar "rendition" of it)

Faulconer is also the man who got 1,000's of dubbies to besiege the e-mail addresses of Dan, Gen and Barry BEGGING them to cut out GT's "crappy, lame Japanese music" and to put in Faulconer's "totally rocking music" in instead when he found out that FUNimation didn't want to re-hire him to work on GT. I don't know if FUNimation would have actually used the original music if not for Faulconer's actions, but his getting's 1,000's of people to compliment the dub music to FUNimation's 3 top executives nonstop while bashing the Japanese GT score (which most of them had not even heard before) certainly did NOT help matters any at all.

Well I have some bad news- Fox is apparently considering HIRING this man to compose the music for the new DBZ movie. Of all the countries on the planet our DBZ dub was the worst, and had the crappiest music. And now Fox, not knowing any better and being spoon-fed advice from FUNimation, has decided that Faulconer actually helped make DBZ BETTER and they want HIM to work that same "magic" on the live-action movie.

Well that's just bull s***. Faulconer is perhaps the absolute worst man for the job and he's not even seen and HEARD what 99% of the Japanese score sounds like himself. Is this person really the kind of guy we fans want to do the music for the live-action movie? As if that's not bad enough everyone at Fox seem to be "preparing" themselves and doing "research" by watching the first 53 Sabanized episodes and the other "uncut" 224 episodes on VHS.

You know, I work hard on this site and don't ask much of you guys but I am going to ask this of and I'd like you all to follow through- E-MAIL FOX. Tell them in your own words what the differences between the two versions are and tell them how much better the Japanese track is and why FUNimation really hired Faulconer to begin with. Tell them to watch the Japanese episodes on uncut DVD's to see for themselves what real Dragon Ball Z is.... not that "Funi Ball Z" version of which only a mere 38.5% is even based off of accurately translated scripts. Get other people to do so as well. If you have a site, PLEASE mention it in your news. Fox's e-mail address is "askfox@foxinc.com". This is all I ask of you and it's not a whole lot. Please do this, it'd really make my day.

One more thing- if they were to not go with Faulconer then they'd need somebody else to compose the music. Who should be recommended? Toei. Toei is the company which originally produced all of the original music and made Dragon Ball into a successful anime worldwide. They know the music better than any other company or person possibly could and are, without question, definitely the best people Fox could hire to do the job.

You know... while writing for dbzoa I've discovered a lot of controversial things regarding FUNimation. What formerly came to mind was Steve Harmon's interview with Gen Fukunaga. However, this new piece easily takes the cake- a reprinted interview with FUNimation's head DBZ script writer. He seems like an alright guy and it's not him I have a problem with but... you'll see.

Anyway, that's gonna be it from me for a while. I need to take a break to get some R and R and get other stuff done but I'll be back once school is done this semester. As for the episode comparisons- starting no later then June I'm going to try and get at least one of them compared per week, so look forward to that. The Majin Buu saga is my personal favorite so I've really been wanting to do this for quite some time now. I'm almost done setting up everything else so by June I should be ready to move on to the episode comparisons.

Some of the stuff on the site is still down due to the server change. Chris Psaros's DBZUncensored mainly comes to mind as I've heard quite a few requests about it. Good news Psaros fans- DBZUncensored is currently archived in the web archives. Heh, gotta love those web archives.

I've also got some news on GT- I picked up an early copy of the first DVD and am almost finished viewing it. What do I think? I've got a lot to say and it'll be a while before I say it. However, I'll get the main questions out of the way before I get to everything else . Yes, the rap music is STILL IN THERE and yes, it sounds just as crappy as it did 2 months ago. ALL of the original music has been completely eradicated from the FUNimation dub so far and it's been confirmed that they are indeed skipping the first 15 episodes. However, the Japanese version is on there and it's even 100% uncut so there is some good news in this hour of bad dubbing.

I've also got some news on Movie 8- FUNimation has announced that they plan on having it hit stores on August 26th. So what does that mean for the dubbing of it? God only knows what they'll do to it, but they've probably already invited the Japanese cast over to Ft. Worth so they can all personally spit in their faces. After looking at what they did to GT and "stepping into the grand tour" with them I have virtually no faith at left in the misguided morons in charge of FUNimation who mistakenly believe they know what they're doing and that they know how to make anime properties as enjoyable and profitable as humanly possible. Oh wait, they DO know how to do that- just watch the dubs of Blue Gender and Fruits which can actually compete with being better than the original. Or DB, which is pretty good, and Yu Yu Hakusho which is alright. I guess they figure since they f***ed up DBZ to highhell they- bleh, never mind, I'm just in a pretty pissy mood after watching that piece of crap they have the audacity to call a dub and actually promote as being superior to the original. I'll get into that later.

Anyway, earlier I predicted that they'd release Movie 8 on June 29th. Turns out I was off by 28 days. Going by those figures that'd mean that they'll begin dubbing on May 18th which is just a litte over a month from now. On the other hand, Movie 8 is the longest Z movie of all and it clocks in at almost an hour and 20 minutes. Given that they'll probably begin either in early May or maybe even mid-April. But quite frankly, I don't give a damn. I predict that the redub of English episode 66 (opps... I mean, "English episode 53a") will have Mark Menza's introduction from the past two movies and FUNimation hasn't given me any reason at all whatsover to think anything remotely otherwise. I also predict that one of the main characters in Movie 8 will have an extremely thick and annoyingly stereotypical German accent and that another one of the main characters will speak ebonics. After all, he does wear a gold chain around his neck and as we all know, people who wear gold chains around their neck all automatically speak ebonics. Just as how doctors with moustaches all sound like Mario. As far as I'm concerned, Movie 8 is FUNimation's final chance to ever shape up and I ain't about to hold my breath for those lying losers.

That being said, I've made some small changes to my review of movie 7- mainly near the end. I've included the e-mail addresses of 2/3rd's of FUNimation's movie script team... Mr. Burgmeier (HAH, I finally spelled it right!) and Mr. Byron Watson. Luckily, these two particular people seem like the rare types at FUNimation who might actually give a flying f*** what us fans think. Mr. Burgmeier's already cleaned up his act but Mr. Byron Watson has a LONG way's to go. However, there's hope for him yet- I think he can still be converted away from the Christopher Neel side even though his brother seems to be one with the Neel. If you feel like it, go ahead and e-mail them. Before you do, I'd just like to point out that they had nothing to do with the re-scriping of the first 3 English GT episodes I saw (4 if you count that "recap episode") so there's no need to bring up GT to them.

The transition to our new server is almost complete. Apologies for the inconvenience while the domain registry was rolling over the IP, many of you may have noticed that different people were redirected to the new server at different times. I was one of the last. Figures, huh? Anyway, the most noticeable impacts you'll notice are 1) this server supports vBulletin. Yes, I can hear the weeping about post counts from here :p I'll try to answer the most obvious questions. First, yes, you need to reregister, sorry folks, but the tradeoff for the more powerful and stable board is well worth it. Second, the old board is going into archived state, so if you REALLY want that post count, after it's up, PM a mod or admin and be patient. Third, the interface/template, yes, it's the default at the moment, I WILL be working on it to provide templates for this board as well, fear not. Also, if you look at it before all the forums are added, don't panic, they're coming.

On a different note, there are three areas which are currently inaccessible; the actual databases for the alliance and boycott, since they're being converted from MSAccess to MySQL, and Chris Psaros DBZUncensored, since the directory structure is slightly different. Working on both of those now, and hope to have all back to "go" status within a week.

As you may know (if you caught my 2nd to last update before I accidentally erased it) a dubbed Dragon Ball GT recently premiered in the U.K. (And ONLY in the U.K. Unfortunately, it's never coming to the U.S.) This dubbed version is known as the "Blue Water dub" and so far they've done a pretty damn impressive of handling it. Scipts that are extremely close to the original Japanese ones (no "punching up"), the original music is almost all there without any "new" music being added, and there's not too much censoring.

Anyway, TW, who did the last Dragon Ball GT Uncensored comparison by himself (note- "By: GreatSaiyaman777/whoever" just means that that person was the one to do the news update) and has now finished reviewing the 2nd Blue Water dub episode. Right now we're working on setting up a DBGT section for dbzoa.net (all we're really missing is a "Dragonball GT Uncensored" picture) which will hopefully come to encompass much more of the series. Meanwhile, check out the new review.

Oh yeah, one more thing. Some... interesting news. Recently I came across the e-mail addresses of 2/3rds of FUNimation's movie script writing team. (John Burgmeier and Byron Watson- long story.) I happen to actually like the work they've recently done with the movies so far (yes, the Movie 7 dub had a bad script but at least Byron was able to finally get them to start including curse words, which should come in real handy for movie 12, heh heh) so... I've e-mailed them about my thoughts and opinions. However, what I'd REALLY like to do would be to show them a link to a site that has all of the DB and DBZ mangas fan-translated so that they can become more familiar with the story themselves and gain a stronger respect for Akira Toriyama's masterpiece. Besides, all of DB still hasn't been re-scripted by them either for that matter so in addition to perhaps convincing them to script DBZ Movies 8-13 better and more accurately it would also, at the very least, give them an idea of exactly what to expect in DB. If any of you know of a site

Last two news updates got messed-up, sorry bout that. Anyway, the new stuff was the DBGTUncensored episode review and the Project Shinonome GT episode 19 script. Also, I've got some new stuff of my own- for starters, I just conducted an interview with a Polish DB fan who talks about what DB was like in Poland and in France. Pretty interesting stuff. I also scanned an interview with Gen Fukunaga in which he discusses his plans for Dragon Ball GT. (And they ain't pretty.) Last of all, I've updated the "FUNimation Says..." section of Truth with some brand new quotes. The new quotes cover a lot of areas, most especially censorship. They pretty much explain in a nutshell why what's censored on DB gets censored.

Now for a bit of DBZ-related news- Season 7 started this week. I gotta say, it took em a long time but FUNimation's really improved a lot. It's not perfect, but a lot better than what it has been and is almost watcheable. However, there's one final thing that's making their dub just reek- the nonstop techno music. It really just keeps killing the mood every time it's played. I can't even begin to tell you how awful it is and superior-sounding the original music is. If you haven't seen those episodes in Japanese, I don't think you'll be able to comprehend just how bad Bruce Faulconer's cat's synthesized casio keyboard "skeelz" sound compared to real instruments. Makes you wonder- if most GT fans who've seen Dragon Ball GT uncensored on Japanese fansubs dislike most of the series, and like the music best of all, then how will FUNimation's dub of GT turn out? Even if they get everything else right the music issue alone could still be enough to completely kill their dub.

Speaking of the new episodes, after watching them I've decided that I really want to focus more on doing more DBZU2 episode reviews than all the other stuff I've been doing recently. Besides, I definitely think I'm more than ready now. Reviewing the movies has given me a lot of experience writing and I'm really happy with how my Movie 7 review turned out. My other movie reviews really were overly harsh (cept for 4 and 6) so my apologies for that FUNimation, don' t take em too personally. Not that they were all completely perfect (especially not 5) but I don't think they weren't as horrible as I made them out to be.

It's finally done... I got movie 7 reviewed. Sorry for not doing it sooner but reviewing the movies can take a pretty long time, especially depending upon on how the movies are done. With spring break here I was finally able to get enough time to complete it. Speaking of which, I discovered an interesting trick that some of you may not know about... While watching a movie on a DVD player you can alternate between subtitle tracks using the DVD remote. You should try watching one of the Z movies sometime while doing this, it can be pretty funny to see all the various changes that are made. Even with that trick though, reviewing movie 7 was still pretty tough.

Also, I got some good news- dbzoa recently got a referral from the latest issue of "DBZ Beckett" (thanks guys!) which features Goku and Vegeta transforming on the cover! (A very good issue, btw.) Please be sure to buy it and check out the lower right of page 60 to see what they had to say.

It'll be back up within a few days. Anyway, the next Project S script is up, for GT episode 18. There are also several new editorials, so be sure to check those out as well.

Ever wonder who it was who had Tein say, "Look, I can see their parachutes! It's okay!" or who worked on episodes 56 and 80? Or who did the soundtracks for the movies? Well, we've got a load of new casts lists in DBZU2 section so now you can find out at just the click of a button. Also, we have a new opinion piece that makes some interesting points about character's power levels. Finally, we've updated the links section to include a link new petition and a new Ocean Actor website link (Peter Kelamis). Hope you enjoy!

Look! I did an update all by myself! It's not much, but it's a start, right? RIGHT? Anyway, chapter 51 of the OA Story is up, along with a new fic called The Legacy of Ansai. Also, I have an announcement. To kickstart the new fanfiction review section I'm planning to start, we're going to hold a fanfiction contest. That's right! You write stories, I review them, and the best one(s) get neato stuff! As with all things, there are of course some rules:
1. Fanfic must be anime-based.
2. No lemons.
3. .txt format only, please.
4. Fics will not be checked for grammar and spelling. Do that yourself.
5. Nothing shorter than 1,000 words. (Before you complain, it's a fic contest, not a poetry contest.)
6. You must be open to criticism. Since this is to kick off the fanfic review section, be aware that while I may praise your fic, I may also tear it apart.
7. Entries must be received by the ides of April. (The 15th)
Email all your entries to me. You can submit a maximum of two, so make sure they are your best.

Oh, one more thing. I'm not going to give fics ratings anymore. I don't really feel it is necessary. Everyone knows that no lemons are allowed, so that should not be a problem. Other than that, if you don't like a fic, don't read it. ^_^

There are some other updates I've made to that section but nothing really major except for the movies/episodes cast list. In addition, two things have been added to our Links section- links to every personal website run by Ocean/Funimation staff members and links to some relevant DBZ petitions out there. As for the petitions, be especially sure to check out the one asking Funimation to include DBGT's original music. It doesn't have a whole lot of signatures right now so please be sure to sign it and to support it by telling other people about it. If you could convince once just one person a day to sign it, and maybe get other people to do that as well, that'd be really great.)

Another week, another update. I didn't realize it was already the 26th. Sheesh! January just flew by. I think once you get past about 16 or 17, time literally speeds up. It's an aspect of Special Relativity that Einstein forgot to detail. So cherish your youth, children! First off, I want to apologize for the site being down for a week. We were having server troubles. It's all fixed now, but I regret that we weren't able to provide the Shinonome script for last week. If you skipped that episode, or if you watched and were confused, you can read the script for Episode 7 now. If you just want a basic overview of that episode, you can also check the recap in today's Episode 8. A couple of funny episodes. Poor Trunks! Also, 10 new scenes from the OA Story are up in the fanfic section. Lastly, I'm kind of behind on adding DVD reviews because of the problem with the site, but 3 more are up: Fusion: Internal Struggle, Perfect Cell: Temptation, and Babidi: The Dark Prince Returns.

In other news, there are some new programs coming up on the International Channel. Straight out of their email message, since I'm too lazy to paraphrase it: "Starting December 30, IC will air 'Soul Hunter' on Mondays at 11:00 pm Eastern time (8:00 pm Pacific time). Starting December 31, IC will air 'Fushigi Yugi' on Tuesdays at 11:00 pm Eastern time (8:00 pm Pacific time). These programs will be dubbed in English. On January 1, 'El Hazard' will move to Wednesdays at 11:00 pm Eastern time (8:00 pm Pacific time). On January 3, 'Slayers' will move to Fridays at 11:00 pm Eastern time (8:00 pm Pacific time). The anime on Sundays will remain the same – 'Dragonball GT' at 10:30 pm Eastern time (7:30 pm Pacific time) and 'Slayers' at 11 pm Eastern time (8 pm Pacific time)."

Big update this week. Five new scripts have been added to P:S, including this Sunday's episode, 285, which is a cool episode so be sure to catch it. We also have a new Interview up in Features, which takes an in-depth look at the Spanish dub and Dragonball/Z/GT in Mexico. It's very thorough and informative, so definitely check it out. It's proof that dubs CAN be good. Also a new Opinion is up regarding purchasing episodes from FUNi; you'll want to check that out too. Also, for anyone who has been watching FUNi's new season and is interested in how it compares to the original, I've written up 4 DBZ Uncensored-style comparisons for this week's episodes which aired on Cartoon Network, starting with Monday's English Episode 223. They seem to be doing better with censorship, but the stupid lines and pointless alterations are still there, not to mention how horribly they messed with poor Babidi's character.

As I said last week, we're having a contest for a DBZOA T-Shirt logo. Submissions are now open! Rules are as follows:

1. We don't want to run into any copyright difficulties, so please don't use the words "Dragonball Z" or "DBZ," or feature recognizable characters from the show. You can however use "DBZOA" and "Otaku Alliance" and any generic anime-type drawings.
2. Don't use too many colors. More colors=more expensive to screen the shirts. Try to stick to just a couple or several.
3. Try to make the images relatively simple and stencilable, and not too big.
4. Submissions will be judged by the staff. First prize will be a free shirt and probably something extra, along the lines of what was awarded in our first contest. You can submit any designs to my email address. Thanks goes out to
FFeRedMage for this idea, and for offering to print the shirts (if he's still up for it.) That's all. Wow I'm tired.

Here with an update to the Fan Submissions section! Let's see what we have here...

- 2 Music Videos in Misc by Wedge
- Scenes 1-10 of the OA Story transfered from message board to the FS section. (Please see my post in the Creativity forum for more details.)
- Chapter 2 of my story, Lovers in Blood, a Sailor Moon fanfic in the Anime Fanfiction section.
- Brandon also comes at us with the first chapter of his new Dragonball story: Sayin Outcast.
- Let's not forget Wedge's desktop images, also in Misc.
- Also updated the Submission Guidelines with a simple new rule: tell me if you don't want your Email displayed, because if I don't hear otherwise, it's getting posted. And a new suggestion for sending me your stories.

Hope you appreciate this update, I went through all manner of hell to get it here quickly. (Server troubles, bad coding, etc.) The things I do for you people... :p

Next update, look for Chapter 3 of Lovers in Blood, Scenes 11-20 of the OA Story, and hopefully some new and interesting stuff, if it's ready by then. Well, enjoy!

Been a long long time since I've updated, those of you who go to the boards know why. I had a brain tumor and needed it to be removed, but I'm back in the saddle and feeling great. With Azrael-sama gone, it's up to me to run this site, so I ain't gonna die on any of you.

I hope this update makes up for my lengthy departure. First off, I'd like to say I'm continuing DBZ Uncensored, so check out the three Garlic Jr episodes I have up already, and I'll have more soon. DB Uncensored is on hold for the time being, since my old vcr ATE MY TAPES when it broke, so I have no source material for it; but when I get more, I'll get to work on that.

Next on the list is the nav bar to the left. As you can see we added Project Shinonome, DBU, and DBZU for your ease of use. I hope you like it. Big big thanks to TTB and VGF for helping out with that. You'll notice it'll pop up on all the pages in time, just gonna take us a bit.

Also, (getting tired yet?) the Features has been redesigned a bit, nothing really new... just making it look better and easier to move around in.

And finally... I'd like to say a final goodbye to my good friend Azrael-sama. I remember working on this site when it was brand new with this guy, and he could inspire anyone. No matter where you go in life man, you'll succeed and will be liked. We'll miss you here.

Wow, it's been awhile since my last update, hasn't it?

Well, this should really come as a surprise to no one, but this update is only to announce my retirement from staff here at the OA. Don't worry, the site isn't going anywhere - I have given control of the site over to Wedge, so the OA isn't going anywhere. And I'm not going anywhere - you'll still be able to catch me around on the messageboards and occasionally on AIM. So nothing is really changing here.

If you wish, you can read more about it in my farewell editorial.

Well, this piece of news is important enough for the main page. According to Anime on DVD, an Akon report states the reason behind no DragonBall DVDs is not an issue with Kidsmark (the ones that put the old dub out)... but rather a "marketing issue" (ie: they don't think they could sell it). Though plans are they will still come out.
Also, DBZ news. Seems Pioneer's hold on the first 2 seasons runs out mid 2003. And most likely there will be uncut release of those episodes (except "NEVER BEFORE SEEN!!!!" stuff). Also saying they will re-dub those episodes. Also, all the movies should be coming out next year. Tell next time.

Now that the day has arrived we can finally confess that the communist revolution was in fact an April Fools joke. Leia was just playing her part, as were we all, and nobody ever really lost control of the site. We hope that when you look back on it you'll be amused and not angry, because it was all in fun.

No action will be taken for behaviour on the message board during the revolution, and all bans or warnings given during that time have been revoked. Bear in mind we're back to normal now, and the message board rules are back in effect.

First off, the latest Project S script is available in the archive. I may have more to add tomorrow.

As many of you have already discovered via our Messageboard, this site has undergone a few changes in the last several days. There has been a reduction in staffers to only myself, Comrade Seashore, and Comrade George. We also have a new motif for the site...communism! This new focus does not in ANY way undermine what the DBZOA has always fought for: a better DBZ dub more faithful to the original Japanese version. Communism in fact fits quite well with the OA's struggle, as we too are fighting against a capitalist enemy. The DBZOA, since its creation, has had one major goal in mind: to unite the fanbase. We still strongly believe it's possible, especially if we keep the principles of communism in mind. Communism is the future, and only when capitalism as a system as been replaced, will we be guaranteed GOOD anime that is not altered and "Americanized" in order to make a profit. In light of all this, the OA has a new Anthem which I hope you'll all enjoy.

For anyone unfamiliar with the principles of communism, I recommend the following site: In Defense of Marxism.

Otaku of the world, unite!

Hey everyone. I've gotten a few emails about DBZ Uncensored. Don't worry, it's still there...but in the server upgrade, our subdomain was reset, so if you're trying to access DBZU through dbzuncensored.dbzoa.net, it's not going to work. We're trying to get this fixed *grumbles* so please be patient with us. In the meantime, you can still access DBZU through http://www.dbzoa.net/dbzuncensored.

On a personal note, this week is finally Spring Break for me. Instead of having free time, between work and family obligations, I actually have none. So I guess this week long vacation will also apply to my OA duties (not like I was doing much to begin with. -_-;; Sorry 'bout that.) Hey...long time, no see huh? Anyway, there's a few things I gotta do, so without further ado...as you already know, the site was down for the past two days. No, we're not about to fall to the same fate that has claimed many DB sites as of late. We'll be kicking for a while. ^_~ We were going through a server upgrade, during which our site was temporarily unavailable. I believe the upgrades are complete, so we're here to stay.

Part of the reason for the server upgrade was so that we can finally implement a new memberlist for the Alliance and Boycott. They have been outdated and buggy for a while now, so this is overdue. In accordance, both the Alliance and Boycott are temporarily closed. We will have the new lists up very soon, but until then they are offline. Don't worry, they most definitely will be back. To all those who emailed me their signup info, this is why it was never added. Keep an eye out, and as soon as the new memberlists are online you'll be able to join. ^_^

Another consequence of the server upgrade is that our message board is temporarily down. Don't worry, it's still there the same as it was before the downtime, it just needs to be fixed. It should be up and running again in the next day or so.

And finally, a piece of news. One tidbit that's rapidly circulating around the internet is the confirmed fact that an American, live action version of Dragonball is coming to the big screen. Yes, live action Dragonball. Ack. You can read more about it here.

Live action Dragonball. Live action American Dragonball. Yes, we should be afraid.

Hey everyone. Another episode script comparison has been added - of episode 229, "The Fated Battle.../Vegeta's Pride", but this time we've got the script from the AB dub. It's pretty similar to the Funimation version, but if you're curious about how our friends in Europe/Canada are seeing DBZ (or you are one of our friends in Europe/Canada), check it out. Thanks to k14 for submitting the dub script to us.

Speaking of UK Dragonball, I haven't really covered it much on this site. Mostly because there's already a place where you can find info about the AB Dub - namely, UK Dragonball. They have a lot of audio and video clips from the Cell/Buu sagas, as well as information, interviews, etc. If you ever wondered how Scott McNeil or Brian Drummond's versions of Piccolo and Vegeta respectively would have sounded in a particular scene, or you're just curious about the AB dub, this is the place to go.

Speaking of links (boy, I'm full of transistions today, aren't I? ^_~ ), I've added two more to the Links section. For video game/RPG affectionados, check out The Suikoden Chapter and get in on the action. And for those of you who enjoy a good MSTing as I do, head over to Web Site Number 9 where over 1000 MSTings have been archived and sorted. I strongely recommend the MSTing of "Misery Senshi Neo-Zero Double Blitzkrieg Debacle", a crossover fanfic about Sailor Moon and Daria. ...No, I'm not making that up.

And to conclude this update, I will say this - Bus Stop is the greatest Japanese drama ever. That is all. ^_^

January is a very good month. *Ahem*, anyway, this technically isn't a update of anything new, sorry. I just wanted to let you know that we've finally fixed some broken links in The Truth section...namely, the Goku Goes SSJ clips (both the Japanese and English clips), the Japanese version of Gohan's SSJ2 transformation, the dub version, and the SSJ2 mix clip. So, if you've never seen those clips before, or would like to see them again, head over to the Truth and check them out!

Episode 247. Project S. Yes.

In other news, a while ago, I brought up the issue of the Alliance and Boycott memberlists, and whether or not they should be closed. I did so as a MB post, so that everyone could respond to it. But then we had our MB woes, and it kind of got lost in the shuffle. Since we now have a stable MB, it's time to talk about this again. Should the Alliance and Boycott memberlists be closed? Check out my full post on the issue and throw in your two cents.

Please note - for those who emailed their info to me for joining the Alliance/Boycott, I'm going to hold adding it until we know what we're going to do with those databases.

Happy New Years everyone!

Hey all. I'm back from finals and family and all that stuff. Yay...for about two weeks...but anyway...for the past two weeks, both my and Wedge's email accounts have not been working...we have not been able to recieve any mail. The problem has been fixed now, but if you sent either of us any mail in the past two weeks, please resend it as we did not get it.

Personally, I had some things in my mailbox that I had not responded to yet, and was going to after finals. But...my mailbox got wiped out...=/ So, if you sent me something older than two weeks, and you haven't yet heard from me yet, please resend it! There are a few items I really wanted to get to, but now I don't have those persons e-mail addresses. There was one... yes, I actually do read my mail, thank you for the compliments, and we'll try to fix those broken links ASAP, thanks for pointing them out!

Oh, in real life I've been busy too... trying to find a full time job (part time job ain't gonna get me my RX-7 any time soon). Plus trying to figure out which university I want to go to. So many to choose from! -.- Anyway... Hard to fit time in to do website stuff. But I'll try to update in the near future with something. Hey all. No content, but a milestone to report on. We've sort of alluded to it for the past month, but we didn't know what day exactly until George is my name pulled it out of his e-mail archives...Happy Birthday, Dragonball Z Otaku Alliance! December 6th marked the official launching day of this site. We've come along way, baby.

On a personal note, I have been really hard to get ahold of recently, due to the fact that this is the end of yet another quarter, which of course means finals =( and I've had some family problems as well. Next week is the dreaded week, but after that I should have time to respond to the various issues in my mailbox. So if you sent me a mail and haven't heard from me, please be patient and you'll hear from me soon!

Told ya I'd be back!!! lol, anyway.... I updated the Radio with 29 new songs. So check those out. ^_^

Secondly, I had an interesting email convo with Gary Wallace of the International Channel. In which I asked him about the episode previews on the DVDs... see, FUNimation doesn't put Japanese language episode previews on the DVDs because they say that Toei either doesn't have them or doesn't give them to them. But, the I-Channel has been playing DBZ with those previews for a long time now. So I asked Mr Wallace about that. And here is what he had to say:

"We get our DBZ from Fujisankei, who gets it from Toei. Quite honestly, I have no idea what the arrangement is between them. Who knows why Funimation doesn't really sub the episode previews?"

So it does come from Toei (albiet indirectly), so it is VERY possible to get those previews. Will archive this on the News page.

More news concerning our good friend Mr Psaros. ^_~ While at work today I saw the new anime magazine "Anime Invasion" on the shelf. And what do you know? Chris had an article!! It's not anything that you wouldn't know if you visited his site ever, but still something worth buying. He talks about some of the censoring and other issues of the dub. Hopefully it will help open up the minds of those who don't have internet access. Chris is a great guy, and his site helped me out. Even though I was already on subs (Good ol' Ctenosaur), I thought the dub wasn't too bad... but his site helped change my mind. And hopefully this article will help others as well. So make sure you buy this magazine!!! ^-^

Where: Truth, Features; DBZ Uncensored
By: Azrael-sama

Three years ago, I used to defend Funimation. I swore that all the mindless editing and changes made to the show were Saban's fault, and that Funimation was actually on our side. I had no idea about the other things that were being done to Dragonball Z. I eagerly awaited Season 3, even though the webmasters who had bought the tapes long before the TV premiere were thoroughly dissatisfied.

When Season 3 finally aired...it felt off. It was good to see new DBZ, but something just didn't feel right, aside from the new voices and music. It wasn't long before someone pointed me in the direction of DBZ Uncensored, a popular DBZ website. I had heard of it, but never actually visited it. It was late, and I had early class the next day, but I went anyway...and ended up reading through the whole site that very night. It was at once entertaining and enlightening - funny as it was informative. You could easily say that DBZ Uncensored is the reason why I'm here, and I'm sure many others recieved their first glimpse of the truth from this site.

DBZ Uncensored officially retired in June of 2001, but this site, and what it did for the DBZ community, will always be remembered. Even with sites like the OA and others popping up, DBZU is still hands down the best source for information concerning the differences between Toei and Funimation Dragonball Z from the Saiya-jin Saga to the Garlic Jr. episodes. The Dragonball Z Otaku Alliance is honored to provide DBZ Uncensored a permanent home here. The site may be retired, but it's still one of the best on the web.

Whether you're a long time fan of the site, or you've never been, I strongly urge you to check it out. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Wow, I certainly haven't updated in a while... I'm back, though, although without any real content, unfortunately, but with news. I'll be focusing alot more on news from now on, as it's obviously something we've been lacking in lately, along with sprinkles of content updates.

First off, before anything; my thoughts on the current dub. I have to say, I'm enjoying it alot more than FUNi's past stuff. Does that mean it's good, or even decent? No. I just think it's better than what FUNi's done in the past. One episode in particular (in fact the one Az just updated witha comparison script of) I thought was well-done, but after watching my old fansub of this episode, my opinion has unfortunately changed.

According to Toonami's schedule, the fifth Season of Dragonball Z ends next Tuesday with dub episode "Final Atonement", which is the episode that Vegeta *spoilers*. (And also the last episode on the two Majin Buu tapes to be released next month). After this, the season will repeat with the Heavens Budokai, and according to the schedule, the episode "Gohan's First Date", previously ommitted from the season's first airing due to the 9-11 attacks will air. It seems FUNi is also diving into the Red Ribbon Army Saga, finishing up the Cell Game on VHS, and releasing Movie Five (definitely about time they start releasing the movies... they should be up to movie 10 or 11 at this point.), in addition to working on the Buu Saga's dubbing and their DVD releases (The Freeza discs end in December, and the Cell discs should start in January, by the way.) On the topic of DVDs, Blue Gender's first disc was certainly a welcome surprise; a HUGE step up from the DBZ discs, we finally have a near perfect disc, complete with excellent extras, an insert, and even a halfway decent dub to boot! Definitely worth looking into. Volume Two should be released next month.

I've updated the Contact page a bit, so check that out if you're interested when you get a chance. And on a final note, check out my friend Nola's site, Phantasmagoria. That's it for now; I'll certainly be making a greater effort to update more frequently. Later!

Where: The Truth: Episode Comparisons
By: Azrael-sama

I've added another script comparison, this time of Episode 229, "The Fated Battle! Son Gokuh Vs Vegeta"/"Vegeta's Pride". This is the infamous episode that many people think Funimation did a good job on. I don't agree.

It was above Funimation's usual standards. But I had just watched that episode the day before it aired from my I-Channel tapes, and I have to say, the Funi version really lacked. The script was not too far off, but they added dialogue in the last places they should have added it, as usual. Specifically, after Vegeta takes out another group of spectators (the slave line) and Goku and Kaioshin's stand-off. Also, they had Vegeta laugh a lot, which sort of changed the scene. Also, the music continues to be inferior, and it just made the whole thing feel so flat. On a positive note, Sabat's Vegeta sounds better than it ever has. But enough about my opinion - go read the comparison and see for yourself.

Oh, and by my guess, Season 5 should end with the episode where...well...not to give anything away...but Vegeta does the only thing he can do to stop Majin Buu. Should be an interesting episode...

I too have excuses for not updating... but I'll get my life under control soon.

Anyway, not an update... but I'm just spreading the word about a Skies of Arcadia fandub. As you may know, Skies of Arcadia is an AWESOME rpg for the Dreamcast, but it lacked any real voice parts. So this group of fans started their own dub! By recording the game and adding in voices, they make it into a movie!! Original no? It has some GREAT promise. But I think that it'll be even better if more people try out for the parts. So I suggest you mosey on down to http://hilarityensues.com/darien/arcadia/ and audition!! Make sure you spread the word.
